Bargain Saturdays: Shower Curtains Under $30

I've had the same shower curtain going on three years now, so I think it's time for a change - plus one of the rings ripped out and now it's all I can look at. When I moved into my rental, I went with a tropical theme in the bathroom. I put up beachy pictures from a trip to Barbados (where I have family), threw my toothbrush in a tacky sunset souvenir mug and strung up my $20 palm tree curtain. It was lazy, kitschy style at its best.

When I started the hunt for a new shower curtain with a more feminine vibe, I couldn't believe how much the cutest curtains cost! I'm really feeling floral these days and this gorgeous display from Anthropologie (who ship to Canada and offer Canadian prices on their website) is $113 without shipping, so I had to pass. Sigh.

So I decided to eschew colour in favour of white to make my tiny bathroom appear bigger (it's the size of a small elevator) and I set a budget of $30. I didn't want plain white, I like a bit of pattern for eye candy. I love the floral pattern on the first choice below, but I also like the polka dots on the second (and I have a polka-dotted train case that stores makeup).

Which one should I choose?

Comments:

I also love clean white bathrooms......my closest brush to shower curtain pattern being alternating satin/matte stripes; all in pristine white, of course.

The dots are less busy than the floral, but neither floats my rubber duckie.

If the bathroom has a lot of patterns, go for the dots. If the only "ornaments" are tiles, then go for the flower and birds.

This "flower and birds" pattern is quite busy, so in a busy decor it will end up being invisible while at the same time adding more visual weight. On the other hand, in a Plain Jane apartment bathroom where there are only straight monochrome tiles (coloured or not), the "flower and birds" will pop. Il will be feminine (without frightening the boyfriend away !) and add a touch of class.

Any tips about where to purchase extra-long shower curtains (our bathroom has high ceilings and the curtain rod isn't at the standard height)?

Thanks!

My vote is for the polka dots. I think it looks modern and cleaner (and hey, it goes with that train case). Good luck with your final choice; I'm sure it will look great in the end, whichever you decide on.

I love the polka dots, but why stop at one shower curtain or look. With the white background you can have lots of fun making your own custom sized curtains  for the different seasons or moods! Play it up, life is much too short not to have fun, you are the one that will visit the bathroom the most so dream and plan away, and have fun!

I vote for Harman Contempo Shower Curtain. Then again, I am not into flowers and all that for a bathroom.

For Josh, buy a set of drapes for the bathroom and use with a vinyl liner and you are all set.

Thanks Nancy for that idea for Josh and thanks everyone for your input! I think I'm going to go for the Fantasia curtain, although the preference seems to be for the polka-dotted version. I just can't resist!

Sigh, that Anthropologie curtain is gorgeous, but if all else fails, go for that cute white floral. Very lovely!
