Photo Gallery: Artful Design at Toronto's Gladstone Hotel

The same weekend IDS09 was going on, The Gladstone Hotel hosted a different annual design show, one that is a little more -- OK, a lot more -- avant garde. "Come Up To My Room" enjoyed its sixth year of showing, airing out some artful and always inspiring ideas by lending out 11 guest rooms to 11 different artists/designers, to turn into whatever their creative hearts desired. Twelve other participants created installations in the public areas of the hotel.

This year the show's founding curators Pamila Matharu and Christina Zeidler invited four young curators to do their job for them; Katherine Morley, Caroline Shaheed, Jeremy Vandermeij and Deborah Wang.  In their words, Come Up To My Room "...operates at the intersection of art and design...[and] is a chance for artists and designers to push limits and explore undiscovered territory."

Here's a preview gallery of some of the installations that this year's show unveiled, with a more extensive gallery to come in the next few days. The photography is gorgeous, I might add.
