Bring out your finest black attire because IDS09, Canada’s largest contemporary design event, is ready to unfold its extravaganza beginning this Thursday, February 5th, in the Direct Energy Centre at Toronto’s Exhibition Place.
The show is in its 11th year of bringing us design trends, ideas and new products from international and Canadian talent, including architecture and industrial design. You can buy tickets to Thursday’s Opening Night Gala (tickets are $50 in advance, $55 at the door) and if you get there early on Trade Day – Friday – you can register to catch some talks by established European designers and professional development seminars if you’re working or studying in the field.

But the weekend is open to all and jammed full of design candy to have you surfing the web for home innovations for months to come.
Features include:
- Crystalclear – six Canadian design firms, including Brothers Dressler will construct glittering prototypes and installations inspired by and featuring CRYSTALLIZED™ - Swarovski Elements
- LuxeHome, where you can drool at the most cutting edge in high-end design, (which, if you can’t afford, you’ll at least know what rip-offs to buy)
- Studio North, where 35 unique Canadian designers unveil their best
- Innovative Prototypes
- New Technology for the Home
- And the popular 5X5 – five design firms conceive a small space, one of the five being Earth Inc., the group featured on HGTV’s show Dirty Business
The HG team will be there throughout the four days, so look for our take on what was the most noteworthy and innovative. And p.s., if you do go in all black, make sure you tie a little red ribbon somewhere – or some other colour of your choice – on your clothing so that your friends and loved ones can spot you if you’re lost…
We'll be twittering during the event, so follow us or keep your eye on #IDS09.
