Colin & Justin makeover: Preppy meets South Beach

Last week on Home Heist, Colin and Justin tackled an out of date living room, dining room and kitchen for homeowners with two young sons. The result? A fresh, bright spin on classic preppy style with a side of South Beach glamour. I love bold wallpaper and the guys didn't disappoint, choosing a graphic pattern that makes a strong, stylish statement. after

Before, the mirrored walls (check out the pole!), clutter and mismatched furniture made the space seem dark and cramped.

Colin and Justin opened up the whole first floor by removing the mirrored wall between the kitchen and dining room. Using the existing shutters as inspiration, they repainted the dining room set glossy white and recovered the chairs in washable, child-friendly linen. afters

But wait, there's more! The team surprised the homeowners with a budget master bedroom makeover. My favourite is the teal throw at the end of the bed, such a gorgeous colour. bedroom after

What do you think of Colin and Justin's latest makeover? Would you go for white slipcovers with small children, even if they were washable?

Comments:

I like the wallpaper, but it is busy... maybe it could've been used more sparingly?

I like the makeover, but not so crazy about the livingroom furniture.

I absolutely love what these gents did here, BUT.....what were they thinking?   WHITE furniture when the couple has two small children!!!!!   Washable linen or not; boys, boys I challenge you to sit two small children for fourty-eight hours.     NO WOMAN WANTS TO BE A SLAVE TO THEIR HOUSE.  She may have to get rid of her children......SMILES      (I do adore you guys.)

I love you guys. You've got the knack, no question.

One angle you haven't explored is Etsy, which is an amazing place to get great art at bargain prices. There are so many local struggling artists and photographers out here (yours truly included) producing fabulous works, that you could be so easily killing two birds with one stone. Decorate the houses with unique, original work, and bolster all the great artists out there at the same time!

Love the makeover..lovelovelove it.  But I did wonder about the white slipcovers with children.  I don't have any children, but I do have two big dogs and a love of red wine...and my white slipcovers have had to be replaced...twice.  Washing doesn't save everything! Its one of life's great struggles...the decision between truly great design...or pets and kids.  Sigh.  That wallpaper is so fabulous it destroys me.  And within seconds of this episode ending I had called my mother and instructed her to paint her dining room furniture stat!

Love Colin and Justin...and cheers to you, you're show is the only HGTV show my Aberdonian Husband will tolerate..he even remembers when the two guys from Glasgow made their first Million!

A warm god morning to everyone on here.  I am a massive HGTV fan so I love these blogs and all. The retro paper in this room is so cool i nearly cried, colin and justin always do wicked stuf but my favourite to this day is a bright yellow kitchen they reno'd for the young bride and groom. Adorable.  I so need those cabinets in my little condo!

Wrap up warm folks it's cold outside! Katriona Hayes says hi from a chilly Calgary xxxxxxx

One word - STUNNING!

January 21, 2009 8:37 AM

That's a HUGE reno! cha-ching! $$$$  what does the space look like WITHOUT the extra photog-lighting?  It would be brighter 'casue of the paint and furniture... a naturally lit pic from them would be nice.  At least they didn't use white carpet!

I LOVE you guys!  I am a marketing manager for new homes and do many models and sales offices and have used many different designers.  You aren't afraid to stay true to your vision and to me, this is the sign of an excellent designer...don't ever go off the air...keep reinventing yourselves as I have watch you do from the beginning. You are both brilliant!

Cheers! from Toronto

White furnature with young kids. I guess the room will be just a showroom with the kids playing in some hidden playroom. I don't like the wall paper. But that is just me.

Absolutely stupendous, the Brits lead from the front as usual, I love this project

Love the room! And why do the children have to be all over the furniture? They have their rooms to play in and its time we adults took back our world instead of catering, always catering to the children. A good opportunity to teach them to respect the living space. And yes, I had children. 4 of them and 3 were boys.
