New Shows and Returning Favourites to Watch Out for!

I've been reading some of your responses to the question of the week, and you guys sure don't disappoint!  Thanks for sharing (and continuing to do so) all your comments about content, and incidentally, I thought I'd mention a few of the new and returning shows that kicked off this past week on HGTV Canada.

Brand Spanking New

Among great new shows such as Around the World in 80 Gardens (a feast for those looking to get more "G" on HGTV), Extreme Living, and The Really Big Flip (always good for a good railing of the nerves), look out for the following picks for something completely different...

The Decorating Adventures of Ambrose Price

Do you remember this quirky cutie from Designer Superstar Challenge?  Well he captured the hearts and minds of many, and is now back with his very own show, traversing Toronto's design terrain as he temps in different jobs, taking on 13 different design challenges.  Ambrose is from a town of 2000 people, in NFL, and trust me when I say that his clumsy charm is no put-on.

For Rent

For those of you who don't own – and I myself was a non-owner for most of my life – this show is the answer to all your unanswered questions.  Host Jodi Gilmour, a rental expert and contributor to the show Marriage Under Construction, takes singles, roomies and couples looking to rent on every conceivable budget, through finding, moving in and smartly decorating their new apartment.  There's plenty of drama in meeting and quashing expectations, not to mention design on a dime for apartment decorating.

Petal Pushers

An inside look we've not been privy to before, Petal Pushers centers around Posies Flower Shop, a premier flower shop in western Canada, hosted by owner Karina Lemke and her team of dexterous floral designers.  How do you coax flora and fauna into eclectic designs such as a large peace sign or a fire hydrant for a dog's birthday party?  By extension, how does one deal with clients' unreasonable demands?  A flower shop proves to be a stage in itself, in this new Canadian series.

Returning

Returning with new seasons are Hidden Potential (giving a whole new meaning to the word "possibility"), The Property Shop with that spunky agent-turned-broker Tatiana, Mansions and my personal favourite, The Unsellables – there's something about those Allsop sisters!  With her witty candor, Sophie Allsop (Kirstie Allsop's sister) is the new queen of telling vending homeowners "how it is".

Have you seen any of these yet?

I love your network and most content but the re-runs are becoming nonstop! Where is BUY ME? Mike Holmes is the best show on TV but even that gets tiresome when it is on every night. Give us some new content!

January 8, 2009 7:35 PM

I feel that your name should be changed to the Re-run Network. If you can't fund new shows of your own then buy them from PBS or HGTV USA. I can not remember the last time that I saw a new Holmes on Homes show. It's like Mike is in the witness protection program.

January 8, 2009 8:10 PM

To Bob and Bobby, re Mike Holmes: stay tuned - you won't be disappointed! (Sorry, can't disclose any details.)

January 9, 2009 12:30 AM

I look forward to Home Heist - its teh only show that really gets me every time.  Its the best design on TV.  Initially I felt unsure of having English hosts but now I love the European style they give us.  And theyre wicked funny! Love it Dana xx

January 9, 2009 1:04 AM

The Good:  Sara and Peter; anything they've done has been fabulous. Pure Design; For Rent; Disaster DIY

The Bad:  Design U; Mansions; Decorating Adventure....

The Ugly:  The Fix (what were they thinking!); Home Heist (the same old decor - white with colour thrown in; with 5 months of snow we need colour not more white!!

Would definitely like to see more design, diy and budget conscious shows; real life stuff and some more things for apartment dwellers; I miss Home to Go.  And definitely some more views of what's happening design wise from around Canada not TO only.

I like Mike but do we need to see Holmes on Homes or House Hunters on 3/4 times a day!!

January 9, 2009 11:35 AM

I specifically came on the site to see what was going on? REPEATS!!! If I see ONE More Holmes on Homes, I'm going to scream!!! Pleaes get some new issues out soooooon!!!  I also agree with some of the other comments! How many time a day do we need to see Mike?? Come on get some new ideas!

January 9, 2009 12:03 PM

Elana .... Please send me an email to advise when you are going to have a show that isn't a re-run.

This stuff is grest the first time, good the second time, but after that its enough to gag a buzzard.

January 9, 2009 3:53 PM

Elena-can you disclose how close we are to seeing new Mike????:)

January 9, 2009 10:54 PM

Whatever happened to the gardening shows?  I truly miss the original content when the channel first came on the air.  Shows such as Gardener's Journal and Mark Cullen's shows taught me how to garden and I have now created a beautiful one thanks to them.  It seems that there is so much gimmick and not enough information regarding homes and gardens.  Please try to bring back some of the quality that first made the channel so succesful

January 10, 2009 11:51 AM

Love Sarah Richardson.  Peter Fallico is also great.  But seriously, ENOUGH OF MIKE HOLMES!!!  He is generally on for 4 hours a day!!!  And those are 4 hours that I am NOT watching HGTV.

January 10, 2009 5:00 PM

Any idea when the new season 3 of Carson Arthur ( green force) is back on the air?????????????

January 10, 2009 5:04 PM

I really enjoy Ambrose and his adventures...finally something funny on HGTV!

January 10, 2009 9:54 PM

I agree with everyone here. I watch too much of HGTV, well it became too much when I realised I know all the shows and ads by heart. Now I go towards other chanels, whenever I turn the tv on (making dinner at 6) it's either Mike Holmes (he's my idols, but too much of one  thing can't be good) or other repeats.

Sarah Richardson is by far my favourite, I stayed in bed all day to watch Sarah's House Marathon. Peter Fallico - great too, when is his show on? Home to Flip? Missed all of them. Move your schedule so we all feel like something is different.

I work for Tatiana Londono (property shop) and am going toward doing my own flips, hopefully, soon, maybe I shoud jump in to get a new show? ;)

January 11, 2009 10:28 AM

I just wish you would bring back Small Space Big Style.  I know its a rerun but the retun that you've brought back, never seen it before.  I love watching how others do up their homes, especially renters.  Enough of the new people buying new homes, some of us can't afford a new home so please bring back your Small Space Big Style.  Just for one season, PLEASE!!!!!!!

January 11, 2009 10:32 AM

Ambrose..what a breath of fresh air you are. Love you and the humour you bring to your show. Stay true to yourself and be yourself! You're a hoot and a hanny...

January 11, 2009 11:12 AM

I too am sick of the reruns..with the never-ending snow it would be nice to see some gardening shows so we can at least start planning our backyard makeovers. What happened to Curb Appeal, Pools Patios and Decks or Backyard Pleasures?

January 11, 2009 3:22 PM

HGTV has pretty much been my network of choice, but lately I've been watching it less and less....too many reruns!!!  What's with all the old episodes of Extreme Makeover.  I want to watch home decorating shows...not Restaurant Makeovers.  How about some shows with foreign content (including USA) and more about other locations in Canada.

January 11, 2009 5:25 PM

Are you going to have any new episodes of Relocation Relocation or Location Location?????????

January 11, 2009 6:11 PM

Please, more Kirstie Allsopp and Phil (NEW ones!) and I love Colin and Justin.  And there is WAY too much Mike Holmes. Could you not find a home reno program based in Vancouver? (The Stagers was boring).  Love HGTV when there is new stuff!  And when we see other countries.

January 12, 2009 12:43 PM

I too am heartily sick of re-run after re-run - there are so many good shows that you have had on that would be so pleasing to see again.

Here's my list of shows that I can do without - PLEASE!

Million Dollar Listing; Mansions, The Property Shop; Extreme Makeover; The Really Big Flip and worst of all is The Decorating Adventures of Ambrose Price.

The Shows that I really, really want to see more of are:

New Mike Holmes shows;

New Location, Location, Location Shows;

New Relocation, Relocation Shows;

Sarah's House;

THE JUNK BROTHERS; and,

Designer Guys

January 12, 2009 7:58 PM

I watched the new gardening show "Around The World in 80 Gardens" this past Saturday and LOVED it! Finally another gardening show! Okay it's not really a teaching type show, but it was a pleasure to watch and I look forward to the rest of the series.

I agree with many of the comments here....there are far too many repeats, and I'm sick and tired of seeing Mike Holmes on for what seems three or four hours a day! HGTV used to be one of my favourite channels but I find that I'm watching less and less of it these days because there are far too many repeats and similar type of property shows. How many times can we watch House Hunters and Property Virgins....enough already!

I do love the British real estate programs such as Location Location and Relocation Relocation, but I'm even sick of seeing the same repeats of those too!

How about shows directed towards people who are on very limited budgets....the type of show Peter Falico had in Home to Go! Show us how much things cost. Not everybody lives in a big house, or even a one with much character and many of us live in Condo's or small apartments and I would like to see these addressed. I'm sure there are many Seniors or the 'Zoomers' age group (over 50's) who would enjoy seeing shows aimed at their situations and budgets. I know I would!

January 12, 2009 9:52 PM

I know how everyone feels and I have learned a lot from some of these shows.  However, whatever ever happened do Design Inc.  I really, really miss that show.  I have every episode pretty much memorized but I really miss seeing the team.  Sarah's House is fun and by the way welcome to my budgets.  Bottom of the barrel pricing is what I can afford.  Tommy, try spending $15 on 45 square feet of peel and stick tile floors.  If I can make it look good so can you!

Peter Falico doesn't do a flip well, his design show was much better.

As for Mike Holmes--well--it doesn't hurt to look at him all day but Mike Holmes University needs to revamp his curriculum.

By the way we do have more than just two cities in Canada (Vancouver and Toronto).  There is Edmonton and a lot of people would like to have their homes invaded here too!  Our small town home could use a restyle and my girls keep begging us to have their rooms done like the ones they see on this channel.

Expand your horizons, think outside the box and across Canada and you will have so much new material you won't know where to begin!

January 12, 2009 11:50 PM

I totally agree that the re-runs are annoying.  In the past I couldn't tear myself away from HGTV.  Now I rarely turn the channel on.

I would also like to see more of Canada in shows.  Living in Ottawa, it's rare to see a show here.  Most of us outside of Toronto and Vancouver cannot even apply to be on a show.  And we don't all live in 3000 sq ft downtown modern condos.

I especially enjoyed designer series where a real designer re-works a room.  The cost is no issue, I look for design ideas.  I also enjoy gardening shows.

And, my biggest peave - stop repeating what happened before the 3 min commercial and don't waste my time telling me what is coming up after the 3 min commercials.  I can watch a whole half hour program and remember what was said before and after the commercial breaks.  What a waste of air time!

January 13, 2009 8:04 AM

I love the new Ambrose Price program with his fresh ideas and friendly personality.I'm sure he'll make his way very quickly in the design business. I am a little disappointed in the time the program airs 11:30 Newfoundland time. But never fear we'll be there watching this program anyway.

January 13, 2009 8:21 AM

I watched Ambrose Price & Petal Pushers last night.  Loved the personalities, quirks et al, that were popping all over.  I thoroughly enjoyed (finally) seeing a different aspect of design besides the typical how to paint and incorporate furniture shows.  Great Job!

January 13, 2009 2:29 PM

I have to agree, Ambrose cracks me up!!! But I learn something too! This is now my new HGTV fav!!!

January 13, 2009 3:29 PM

I agree with everyone here! I'm so tired of seeing Holmes on Homes and Property Virgins! Enough already!!!!  To be honest with you, I turn the channel when I see either of those shows airing.  Sandy B hit the nail on the head with the 3 min repeats before and after the commercials... really now, do they not think that we have a memory?!?! What happened to Candice Olsen and Home to Go? How about budget conscious shows? HGTV needs to expand and give us more content. It's getting stale!

January 13, 2009 10:39 PM

Is Marriage Under Construction returning for a new season? My wife and I love the work of Tara Andrea Mykytiuk and Vincenzo Sica.

January 13, 2009 11:45 PM

I watched Ambrose Price on Monday, and I must say I laughed so hard.  I think it's a great new program on HGTV.  Many of the shows are interesting however they are all very much the same.  How many shows can you watch about renovating to sell, renovating to purchase, renovating to rent, renovating for income property?

January 14, 2009 11:31 AM

I am a big fan of HGTV but have never commented on a show before. However, I have so enjoyed the first 3 shows of Ambrose Price that I had to let you know.  As someone already commented - I was entertained, laughed a lot and learned something new at the same time.  Kudos to you for having the foresight to add this program to your line up.

January 14, 2009 10:59 PM

watched Petal Pushers a couple of days ago and I must say it is quite the show. Can't wait to see more!

January 15, 2009 12:52 PM

I have to agree with you Doreen, Ambrose is a hoot! For Rent is interesting too. Keep up the good work HGTV!

January 15, 2009 5:14 PM

Thank *** for Ambrose, a few new shows, now please get rid of the repeats. NO MORE repeats, thank you. I watched the Petal Pushers for two shows, what a waste of time that was, one pushy blonde and a funky guy with a crush on himself. Please ditch this one soon. Please don't cry "no money" for new shows, cheap will not keep your viewers happy.

January 15, 2009 5:25 PM

I watched petal pushers and i have to say that i really liked the show, as someone who works in the flower industry, its nice to see this industry being finally represented on your channel with all the drama that people in this buisness live through every day.

I only wish this show can be in an earlier time slot ....after all, people in the flower industry start their day around 5 Am and being up till 10:30 is a real challenge....good show....bad time slot.

January 15, 2009 8:08 PM

Hello HGTV, where's Peter Falico in your 2009 schedule???? I was so disappointed when I realized that his show is not on anymore. He does an excellent job with his "Home to Stay" and should never disappear from HGTV. He, Sarah Richardson and Sandra Rinomato. Bring his back, please!!!!!

January 15, 2009 9:36 PM

I have to say that Home Heist seems to be getting better by teh minute.  Really good show HGTV, Colin and Justin are sublime xxx

January 16, 2009 7:41 AM

Watching some of your new shows this season. I love Petal Pushers- The flowers are just so beautiful and Karina is both elegant and funny. Some of her team are great to watch- I like the way Kathy teaches her assistant. Great show!

Ambrose Price is a good show too, but sometimes he goes a bit over the top for me.

January 16, 2009 1:37 PM

I love the network, but there have been WAY too many reruns on HGTV lately. Please bring back fresh episodes of my old favorites: Design Inc, Designer Guys, and Mike Holmes. And my new favorite: Marriage Underconstruction! Tara and Vincenzo are amazing, and I would love to see more of them working on a different couples home. Please bring them boh back for season 3

January 18, 2009 3:52 PM

Finally a new show to watch on HGTV - I love flowers always have - they are celebratory, peacefull and beautiful.Just one bouquet in your home can change your mood to that of pure happiness. The colors and variety are endless - there scent incredible. Petal Pushers not only shows the variety but how difficult and stressful it can be to create something extraordinary for someone you hardly know and what there taste are. Its' fascinating how Petal Pushers comes up with ideas on each event. So far my favorite was the little girls birthday party at her step moms salon - the purse, dress and shoes dressed in flowers were oustanding - Genius!!!! For years now I have been a HUGE fan of Posies Flowers and have never been disapointed. I have never had to tell Karina what flowers to use she just knows somehow. They shock me with every event that I have in my life with their GENIUS. I have even shed a few tears because it's like they know the sole of a person and they bring it out in their flower arranegements. Good Luck with Petal Pushers and I look forward to seeing some great works ahead Karina!!!!!

January 22, 2009 11:40 AM

Only show I watch is Home Heist as the designs are often bold which I love.  So glad Colin and Justin got married in Canada and so enjoy their shows,

K and F x

January 25, 2009 5:04 AM

I love Sarah Richardson shows...is Design Inc coming up with any new shows?  Unlike many others I CAN'T STAND Ambrose!!! Didn't like that he won the competition and can't stand him now!!  Please bring Sarah's Design Inc back (and keep Sarah's House as well).  I agree...I like Mike Holmes, but enough repeats and so many times a day!!!

January 27, 2009 11:51 AM

It is very dissappointing to watch re-runs after re-runs aafter re-runs...I use to look forward to "Design Inc"but it's always the same old thing...When are we going to see something NEW?

January 27, 2009 7:56 PM

To be honest the only shows I watch are Home Heist and Peter Falico.  Colin and Justin make decore fascinating and entertaining, really lovely guys and Peter Falic seems grounded

January 30, 2009 10:34 AM

I just saw the casting for season three of Marraige Under Construction.  Anyone know if Tara and Vincenzo are returning? They make such a great team! The new season should show more of the two of them together and less about the lives of the couple.

February 1, 2009 6:51 PM

We Love Marriage Under Construction!!!

Bring it back for season 3, with Vincenzo!!!

Not a fan of Tara though. She came across super fake, and at times didnt seem like she knew what she was doing.

February 3, 2009 5:31 AM

agree with others in regards to the non-stop reruns.  HGTV is like a neglected room that never gets tidied.

I watch HGTV for the real-estate shows and as well for the design shows.

I avoid HGTV because there's nothing new on....ever.

February 11, 2009 8:31 AM

I miss the Designer Guys III. I wish you would bring this program back or a version like that, with the same three guys. They made even the most manly of husbands not afraid to sit down and watch a design show.

There are guaranteed favorites, Tuesday night Design Inc., Sarah's House or Cottage coming this spring and Designer Guys III.On Thursdays Holmes on Homes or, Holmes on Homes Inspection coming this spring, Disaster DIY, The Fix and Real Renos. These are all programs my husband and I can sit and watch together.

Shows like Colin and Justin's Home Heist are a repeat, even if it is a new show. They do the same design basically every time, only a different colour. The only reason men are watching the show is for Cheryl. So give Cheryl her own show.

Sally

February 11, 2009 9:18 PM

homes on homes rocks and so does worlds most extreme homes.

February 12, 2009 11:45 AM

Home Heist is wicked fun, probably the best of all the shows and I love how Colin and Justin are brave enough to tackle what seems like the whole house sometimes.  Plus these guys have an astonishinly fast sense of humour which me and my husband love,

Janine

February 14, 2009 7:22 PM

PLEASE, PLEASE, in your newletters, could you FINALLY give us an answer!!!!!???????  WILL THERE BE NEW EPISODES OF RELOCATION OR LOCATION?  It seems a simple question to answer.  So many of your viewers are asking the same question.  Again, PLEASE, a simple YES or NO in your regular newsletters.  We just want to know!   This is NOT a difficult task.  PLEASE!!  Thank you in advance.  Carol.

March 7, 2009 8:21 PM

ON THE POSITIVE SIDE.......Love Home Heist, Petal Pushers, For Rent, and glad to hear about "Sarah's Cottage" upcoming.  For so many reasons HGTV is great, but again, as above, just a simple anwer please?  Ta!  Would also like to see new "Million Dollar Listing".  I could watch Property Virgins, House Hunters, and House Hunters Int. over and over, because if you watch them long enough (over time), they are like new again.  Keep up the good work!

March 7, 2009 8:31 PM

I have to weigh in on this considering the blog is old.

I have to say that Ambrose is funny and easy to watch - definately not a renewable tv show considering his show is learning as he goes.

LOVE Property Shop, Buy Me!, Million Dollar Listing, Really Big Flip, and Sarah's House.

Like all of you, I am tired of the reruns.  I find myself having to venture out to A&E and TLC for similar home shows.

I hate Peter Fallico and everything he does.  He is annoying to watch.   He needs a hair cut and needs to stop floundering his hands around.  If i was in his presence I would feel his nails would scratch my eyes out - please -NO MORE FALLICO.  I also can't stand Petal Pushers and For Rent!  The For Rent is a stupid premise.  And Petal Pushers is down right boring.

March 10, 2009 8:44 PM

We really enjoyed Marriage Under Construction that aired in 2008.  We found the couple rather entertaining and enjoyable to watch.  I'm guessing there will be a new couple next season?  Hope there is a new designer also - she didn't know what she was doing it seemed and her personality seemed on the fake side.  It would be nicer to see someone who is genuine.I wonder how some people qualify for that.

Contractor was alright.  I'd rather see more drama though since it is a young show.

March 13, 2009 3:28 PM

Looove Peter Fallico, he is a true designer who knows how to design on a budget.  Love the British Relocation Relocation. Love House Hunters (new ones) and Property Virgins (new ones).

Petal Pushers? what is that? Garbage! Get rid of all the million dollar listing shows, the economy is a bust and most of us can't afford what they're offering.

Sarah Richardson is sooooo pretentious to the point that she appears "ghetto".

March 14, 2009 6:50 AM

I adore Ambrose!!! Finally, some new content!

March 16, 2009 5:36 PM

My wife and I enjoy the "Property Shop" and Tatiana Londono. Only problem is that it doesn't seem to be carried by Comcast in the Detroit area.

May 11, 2009 3:20 PM

Where is Real Renos?  What is going on with HGTV? Jim Caruk is the one guy who truly shows the reality of renovations and dealing with clients, contractors, trades, etc.  I am so sick of Mike Holmes and his 'good guy' portrayal of himself...give me a break - We need to see both sides of the story, not just his side.  Jim Caruk is the real thing - He's not interested in making himself look like a hero - He is dedicated to showing people the true reality of real renovations.  Give me a break with this over saturation of Mike Holmes!

May 15, 2009 5:27 PM

What happened to the Ambrose Price show???

May 20, 2009 8:47 PM

we love watching Homes on Homes whats up????????????? what time is it on?

I am a long time viewer and may stop... I will NOT watch Design Star again nor will I be watching these “new people” you are hyping.  Bring back the good ones that we all love

I love Candice and Devine Design, (she cares about the show and it's people and it shows.)  Where is she?  I can’t find her  nor can I find a lot of my favorites.  Where’s Kim, where’s David, where are the Design on a Dime people? .

There are others like her and highest among them is Clive’s sidekick Lisa LaPorta.  At least she’s still there.  But is that thanks to Clive?

Now to Design Star:  Last year you had a self-centered egotist as part of the show and he came close.  The viewers did not like his attitude and I am sure that is why the surfer dude got that far.  Anything to keep out creeps.

Now you have another self-centered egotist who does not take responsibility for his actions or inaction (note the money he knew nothing about

He  not a team player (note: he did not share info, did not let anyone do anything because his mouth overrode anyone and everyone else.

And has a rotten to the core personality.  The personality he showed you was not what the viewers saw and not what his fellow players saw.

The viewers would have picked Dan Vickery.  Especially if they watched the series all the way through and saw the kind of person Antonio Ballatore really is.

It was obvious from almost the beginning that he would be the winner.  The way you fawned over him.  UGH!

Is Design Star fixed.  Should I compare you with our government.  Is there a special interest group behind this?

The colors he picked in the last challenge were atrocious.  His style left a lot to be desired.

Whereas the only thing you faulted in Dan was the backsplash.  I agree. The rest was something fabulous.

So to repeat: I will NOT watch Design Star again nor will I be watching these “new people” you are hyping.  Bring back the good ones that we all love.

Also I do NOT like Dear Genieve (I do not see any compassion in this person).  She does not come across as a caring person.  When she said to stop listening to what the client wants that irked me no end.

September 16, 2009 3:23 PM

Could you tell me who made the flower print dress that Tatiana Londono wore on the September 29, 2009 show?
