Question of the Week: What Type of Content Would You Like to See in 2009?

We know you’ve got your likes and dislikes with regard to what we put out on HGTV Canada -- both on television and online -- so lets talk about it!  Are we speaking to your Home and Garden concerns?  Are there certain hosts that appeal to you more than others?  Would you like to see more design and makeovers, DIYs, outdoor spaces and gardening, real estate or challenges?  What did you like in 2008 and what would you like to see more of in 2009?

We’re asking you to get it all off your chest and give respect wherever you think it’s due, so let's hear it.

Happy New Year!

Comments:

I think many of the show stuff are so unrealistic to implement.

More interaction with ``real people`` that don`t have unlimited budget would be nice.

I really enjoy the design shows and the imported real estate shows. I love Sarah Richardson. I enjoyed her show Design Inc. more than Sarah's House. I also really like Pure Design. I would love to see a show with someone like Lynn Spence doing styling of existing homes. I would love to see a show that was inspired by Country Home or Harrowsmith magazines. I like seeing things re-used but I did not enjoy She's Crafty. More along the lines of the vintage pieces used by Sarah Richardson or Samantha Pynn

I do not enjoy the gimmicky shows like Home Heist or The Fix.

I really like Relocation, Relocation and Selling Houses.

As you can see I am addicted to HGTV. That is why my husband unplugged the cable. So now I can only watch the shows on the Internet. Could you add some of my favourites to the Internet schedule?

p.s. I love the blogs on hgtv.ca

January 5, 2009 2:25 PM

More gardening shows would be great - not just the one from the UK.

Enjoy Sarah's House, but can't stand the real estate shows.

January 5, 2009 3:07 PM

Sarah Richardson and Samantha Pynn are my two favourite designers for sure, although Tommy has to get a special mention just for being such a great character.

I like shows with great characters/hosts.

January 5, 2009 5:20 PM

Sarah Richardson and shows like House Hunters (I really like House Hunters International) and Relocation, relocation.

January 5, 2009 5:41 PM

DIY or renovation shows for those without an unlimited budget, and for the shows to give an approximation of how much reno's, designs, etc., cost.

January 5, 2009 6:55 PM

More Canadian content would be Great! Also more Canadian contests, like the ones they have for the USA. Dream Homes etc.

January 5, 2009 7:28 PM

I absolutely love Brian on on Disaster DIY! He has a terrific sense of humor & will say stop! when something is way past a diy or really teases a person that is a slacker to get them motivated or get a rise out of them. But most of all I like shows like his and shows like The Unsellables because they are working within budgets that are realistic with homes that are not already mansions and are not in exotic locals and are pointed to the average home owner. Other shows I like incude Location, location,,,Property Virgins... Sarah's House is better now

January 5, 2009 8:37 PM

I love HGTV, and am addicted to watching. However I would like to see more that show the west coast, everything is centered in toronto, Yes we can see the design trends, but we can't see it in Vancouver locations. There is a whole part of a country that is not shown on HGTV.

January 6, 2009 12:47 AM

I really like the real estate shows, favourites being Location, Location, Relocation, Relocation, Selling Homes & Property Virgins.  The British shows are superb.  Also like The Unsellables, but really dislike the "silly" shows like The Fix.  My absolute favoutite is Sarah Richardson.  I do prefer her Design Inc. as it gives more design variety since she's designing for her clients.  I find the designs in Sarah's House too predictable ... lovely, but predictable.  And, it goes without saying Tommy Smythe is a star onto himself ... absolutely great!  You definitely need more gardening shows during the gardening season  & not those cheapy American ones ... Kathy Renwald & more Canadian & British.  Love your network, but the quality has to improve as it seems to be slipping.

January 6, 2009 8:26 AM

Would love to see more Design Inc., Pure Design, Home to Stay, & House Hunters International - less of the U.K shows, and although Mike Holmes is great - his show has aired WAY too much. The absolute downfall of every single show that's on is the "piped in music" they use. Sometimes you can't make out what they're saying - it's loud, annoying & useless, I don't see the point if it.

January 6, 2009 10:14 AM

I would love to see some more landscaping and gardening shows here in the spring and summer. I  like the design shows by Sarah Richardson, and also pure design etc. I also like location, location and relocation, relocation but they are the only real estate shows I like. Do not like any of the American flipping shows unless you do a one off episode to show how much money they lost in the last year. I enjoy Mike Holmes but I am sick of seeing him every time I turn on HGTV. I would also like to see more architecture shows showing some of the great architects we have in today world, or even past architects. Would love the see a 1/2 hour show once a week going to all Frank Loyd Wrights buildings and houses and or other famous architects. I would also like to see a special episode on the Make It Right houses being built in New Orleans. From the competitions of house designs to the picking the winners to the building of the first house, and how the people like living in them. More serious design show and less goofyness, this is NOT MTV, and I don't want it to be. Thank you for listening.

January 6, 2009 10:38 AM

I've enjoyed Design Inc. Sarah's house, Home to Stay as well as Home to Flip.  So keep Sarah Richardson and Peter Fallico, please.  Shows with realistic budgets and not oodles of money.  I don't watch any of the other shows since I don't find them appealing to me.

January 6, 2009 11:15 AM

Please give a weekly printable schedule like it has been for the last few years. I get very frustrated by missing a lot of shows I would like to see since I don't know when they are on. By the time I go through the listing on air, half the show is over. I like to plan my TV viewing in advance.

January 6, 2009 11:21 AM

Sara's House and Design Inc are definately my favorites, but I also love Relocation, Relocation and Home to flip.  I don't have cable so I'd love to see more of these shows online.  I don't agree with many that say they want to see more realistic budgets...that's when shows get tacky and the design isn't near the standard that Sara Richardson or Peter Fallico would have.  I'd rather see good design on a larger budget than tacky, bad design that's cheap.

January 6, 2009 11:48 AM

New episodes of Holmes on Homes,

January 6, 2009 12:21 PM

Would like to see more gardening shows, and less shows talking about flipping houses, or other such shows which are unrealistic for today's economy.  Shows on decorating or renovating on a budget, as well as more Canadian content would be great.

January 6, 2009 12:37 PM

Design/Decorating shows with realistic budgets.  Design Inc was great.  Sarah's House - while interesting - was not within the realm of most people's budgets....

More gardening / landscaping shows.

Home Heist is over the top - they need to tone it down.

January 6, 2009 12:38 PM

I would like to see a Canadian show about rural and small town living that includes all areas of Canada - a show about home architecture and design, gardens, outdoor buildings (barns), going green, saving money, views .... Canada is an incredibly diverse and beautiful country. Me and many people I know, who watch HGTV, are tired of seeing shows that primarily feature homes in big cities and their suburbs.

From a resident of mountain view property in Lillooet, British Columbia.

January 6, 2009 12:42 PM

3 words:  More Sarah Richardson!

Also, more realistic budgets and details on the actual cost of the designs (furniture, labour, etc...).  Some shows are so vague and unrealistic around budgets!

January 6, 2009 12:51 PM

Sara's House and Design Inc are definitely two of my favourites, and I also like Home to Stay and Home to Flip.  I used to really enjoy the Designer Guys, but rarely watch it anymore because I find the three guys that are on now very boring and their and their designs very uninspiring.  I miss Lynda Reeves from House and Home. I wouldn't mind seeing shows with host Chris Madden or Design Match.  Shows that show home designs from the Western provinces and not always just in the Toronto area. Definitley less British shows/content.

January 6, 2009 1:02 PM

I love Relocation,Relocation and House Hunters also Property Virgins but am tired of repeats of Holmes on Homes. The Fix is annoying and miss House and Home but truly miss gardening shows and there was a show Harrowsmith that was quite good. I live in B.C. and would like to see gardening shows that incorporate the diverse weather in the interior and the wild life that is a challenge to gardeners.  I love HGTV and can't wait for new content to keep us watching. A fan from the Okanagan Valley in B.C.

January 6, 2009 1:16 PM

I agree with Kathy Sicard except my problem is that  there is nothing for the East Coast.  We watch all these shows and see the trends for Toronto but what about the rest of the country.

Come to Atlantic Canada we have much to offer.

January 6, 2009 1:54 PM

Gardening in the various regions of Canada ... for real people with real budgets.  Come to Winnipeg/Saskatoon/Edmonton and see what a typical backyard looks like.  Source the products used in the show locally too.

Designing in the various regions of Canada (again ... real people/budgets/floor plans).  Toronto might have a lot of great stores but not if you don't live anywhere near Toronto ... and a lot of us don't!  What can we find where we live?  What are our options if we don't actually live in GTA?

Ditto:  Relocation, Relocation/Location, Location, Location; Brian Baumler rocks; Tommy too ... he and Sarah work so well together.

I like the designs that look like someone could live there.  Do people with kids really want white rooms full of glass?  How do people really watch tv when no pieces of furniture actually face the tv?  How do people get into the closets where the chairs/tables have been placed in front of the doors?  I know the rooms are staged for presentation but it is hard to appreciate the design if these are some of the questions coming to mind.

Hate the repeats like everyone else.  Don't like the crazy staged shows as mentioned above.  Was sad/shocked to see shows like Property Virgins sell out to the US market and have American clients.

January 6, 2009 1:56 PM

Anything gardening relative to the Prairies and Saskatchewan would be nice.  Also how about some of those home shows happening on the Prairies also.  Its always southern Ontario where nifty products and stores are easy to find.  Try it in Regina or Moose Jaw!

January 6, 2009 2:11 PM

What I *need* and miss (because I know they used to be on) are shows specifically about organizing and decluttering.  This is an area I struggle in and need inspiration and creative ideas presented to me visually.

Also, although I live in Ontario, I hear what others are saying about there being too much "Toronto"-focus.  I realize that from a production point of view it's probably easier to film in TO, but if you're going to show us all the nifty stuff you can buy in TO, perhaps you could point us to online retailers so those of us out in the boonies can "recreate" the look.

And I agree about the budget issues so many others have brought up.  Today I watched "Love It or List It" and was flabbergasted at the reno budget of $40k+ and the buying budget of $800k+.  My rural little mind couldn't wrap itself around these numbers.  I know those are "big city" prices, but holy moly.  I could not relate at all to the situation.  My 1150 sq. ft. semi-detached could sell now for $140,000 (up from the $63k at which we bought it 3 years ago) and I still wouldn't be able to afford a nicer home in our town.  The renos we've done on it have been about $30k and we've gutted both the kitchen and bathroom.  Please consider visiting other areas with other price ranges so more people can get the most out of the shows.

January 6, 2009 2:46 PM

What I would like to see more of are shows like Home To Stay, which exemplifies realistic renovations and design. I appreciate the fact that Peter Fallico is more hands-on and has clients that are a modest $ level. Sarah Richardson, although has a great personality for TV, is consistently too high-end budget-wise. I don't appreciate that her second flip was supposed to be more realistic budget-wise but she still spent far more than the average person would. I would like to see her do a home that is more low-end - you don't have to spend a lot of money to see great results, which is why Fallico's Home to Flip, in my opinion, was far more successful. I remember a time when Sarah wasn't so posh and she was more accessible to the everyday person.

I cannot stand the overly dramatic Holmes on Homes and hate the fact it really does seem like it is on half of the time. Mike Holmes is so over the top that it distracts from the show.

I must admit what I really enjoyed recently was A New Life In the Country, where people renovate old barns or churches etc. with either high and low budgets. I do enjoy Location, Location, Location and Relocation, Relocation (the chemistry between Kirstie and Phil is amazing) but at this point have seen every single episode a few times and just don’t tune in anymore. I would really love to see a show about Canadian heritage homes, or even just a program that showcases homes (interior design and renovation) from all provinces and territories, big and small. Not sure how feasible that would be budget-wise but would be nice to see.

I would be interested in seeing a show that showcases homes (interior design and renovation) from all provinces and territories, big and small. Not sure how feasible that would be budget-wise but would be nice to see.

I cannot stand the overly dramatic Holmes on Homes and hate the fact it really does seem like it is on half of the time.

Regarding shows like Property Virgins, not sure what the point was of having the host showcase homes in American cities. That was almost insulting, considering how many American-based shows are already on HGTV.

I must admit what I really enjoyed recently was A New Life In the Country, where people renovated old barns or churches etc. with either high and low budgets, but I understand that run is over. I did enjoy Location, Location, Location and Relocation, Relocation but at this point have seen every single episode a few times. I am not one for modern homes, so that is totally a preference. I would really love to see a show about Canadian heritage homes.

More Sarah Richardson... Enough Said!

January 6, 2009 3:44 PM

More New Episodes of Design Inc and Sarah's House!

Can't wait for Sarah's Cottage!

January 6, 2009 3:47 PM

Wow...I love the consensus of viewer thoughts as I read thru the comments....so here is my five cents!!

Dear HGTV

We your viewers are not rich, wealthy socialites who flit around the city buying items whenever/where-ever we choose. Most of us need to shop wisely and spend money responsibly for ourselves and our families. In a time were the economic pressures are seem so gloomy, this becomes an even more salient point. Although we would all love to have Sarah Richardson's $100+k to renovate a home, it just isn't going to happen for most of us; and those that can afford to do that can also hire a designer and contractors to complete the work, thereby making HGTV somewhat redundant for them!!! I mean seriously what niche market of people can relate to a show entitled "Mansions". The few segments I have seen of that show actually turned my stomach due to the grossly warped views of the host and the homeowners.

So give us shows that the average person can enjoy and watch, ones with hosts we can relate to, shows that source out the bargains or at least disclose the price of items they are showing us, shows that focus on the Canadian consumer and utilize Canadian products/companies as much as possible.

And last but certainly not least, I am always concerned by the fact that many of the renovations that occur on a multitude of shows results in good items being dumped into a garbage container and taken to yet another landfill. Unwanted items are not always garbage and can be donated to various local charities. If this already happens on shows, then HGTV needs to make an effort to make an effort to show that and encourage viewers to employ the same recycling point of view when the opportunities present themselves. Let's not just show ecofriendly products but how we can also be environmentally friendly through simply reusing and recycling.

And that is my rant done! Let me know when you would like to hire me as a full time critic:).and ohhh....by that way did I mention I love HGTV?!!:)

What happened to a new season of Design Inc?  Sarah Richardson rocks!!  I would love to see more of her beautiful transformations!!

January 6, 2009 4:13 PM

I don't have the HGTV channel but have watched the episodes online. I guess I haven't been overexposed to Mike Holmes yet and I crack up laughing at Home Heist.

I would like to see more online shows that travel the country and not just to other big centers like Calgary and Vancouver. Living in Newfoundland, I realize it would be hard to have a show film here, but smaller places to have a history and interesting features that would defintely fit into a designing or landscaping show.

January 6, 2009 4:14 PM

I like the British real estate shows and the UK renovation shows like Build a New Life In The Country. Although the economy has changed away from flipping houses, the aspect of renovation is an eternal.

There's a new UK show featuring the architect from Build... in the Country where he totally renovates the interiors of family homes that people want to keep but the space isn't working. The Home Show?

That said, I don't care for anything with an unlimited budget. Also not awfully crazy about truly exotic houses, both the expense and the bizarreness grate.

January 6, 2009 4:21 PM

More landscaping, curb appeal and outdoor focused shows

More DIY style shows

Brian B, Jim C and Peter F - Good.

British guys - bad

More like "Style at Home" then "House and Home"

And more of the shows in the "vault".  I would rather watch old seasons of Buy Me, Design Inc. or Real Renos again then some of the filler you are adding in now.

As much as I like Mike Holmes, you need to plan for the future without HoH and get some other people out ther.  He is on way too much this past year.

January 6, 2009 4:33 PM

I love Sarah Richardson, and I think Ambrose Price is wildly entertaining!

January 6, 2009 4:37 PM

I love Sarah Richardson, and particularly Sarah's House.  Please get rid of the 'flipper' shows - they are part of the past now.  I also really like Peter Fallico and Home to Stay.  Property Virgins was better when the locations were in Canada - I can't relate to Ohio or Texas.  I also think Sandra needs to be more realistic and not try to talk new buyers into borrowing the maximum the bank will allow!  Ambrose Price is fun, too.

January 6, 2009 4:42 PM

Love Sarah's house & would love to see what she could do with House's, Townhouse's & condo on the West Coast, inside of alway's back east, the buildings are so diffrent.

I love the British Real Estate shows, also people buying places in holiday area's, Not keen on Colin & Justin's home heist, they go a bit over board, with the tantrums.

I would like to see an organization show, for   kitchens, & where to store  extra bedding for winter & summer or winter coats & clothing, plus gargage space storage. The shows also I would like more detail, like flooring used, paint colours & cabinets, where to buy this & the manufacture.

Another show is should we stay or go, I would like advise on whether to remodel a townhouse or sell..

Thanks

Glynis       Abbotsford bc

January 6, 2009 4:50 PM

Definitely a new season of Design Inc., had been longing for it but it doesn't seem to be showing no more. May having past seasons of design inc., and Style Dept as well, available to watch online. Was a big fan of Design Star as well but 2nd and 3rd season haven't been broadcasted in Canada yet. Or maybe more on the Canadian design challenges like Designer Superstar. And Small Space, Big Style, gotta love it living in downtown Toronto.

January 6, 2009 4:57 PM

Love Sarah Richardson, Jim Caruk, Peter Fallico, and their shows.

Can't stand Home Heist, The Fix, or Mansions....they drive me crazy!

Love Mike Holmes, just new episodes, please!

LOVED

January 6, 2009 5:39 PM

LOVED Handyman Superstar Challenge.

Please, Please more realistic budgeted shows and projects and less gimicky junk.

January 6, 2009 5:41 PM

I love Property Virgins, House Hunters, House Hunters International, Sarah's House, & Relocation, Relocation. Those are all great shows that i would like to see more of. I do not enjoy Home Heist and the Fix.

January 6, 2009 5:42 PM

I also love Location, Location and The Unsellables. Silly shows like Home Heist and the Fix are bad.

January 6, 2009 5:45 PM

I would like to see more of your shows online.

January 6, 2009 5:48 PM

As so many comments have stated already - love Sarah Richardson, Jim Caruk, Peter Fallico.

Holmes on Homes - great show but way overdone - I believe it has had its day.  Time to move on.

Whatever happened to the original Designer Guys?

You need more down to earth, realistic and accessible design ideas for the average homeowner.  Remember, Canada is a big country - the vast majority of your viewers are not living in Toronto.  This is for design shows and gardening shows.

January 6, 2009 6:10 PM

I absolutely love Pure Design.  Samantha Pynn is amazing.  I love how she uses stuff that people already have and dosn't gut every room.  I love how it's focused on being environmentally friendly, which should be our main priorty when renovating these days.  Funny how environmentally friendly renovating can be so easy on the pocket book when reusing existing items.

January 6, 2009 7:02 PM

Sarah is a gem and Sarah's House is the best show on HGTV. Hats off to Sarah and also to the director, Andrea, who deserves a round of applause for putting it all together so well (don't change the formula!). I agree, though, that representation from other parts of the country would be nice to see. It is, afterall, HGTV Canada, not HGTV Toronto.

January 6, 2009 7:13 PM

Okay, as everyone has already mentioned their combined dislike of shows like "The Fix" etc. I won't write paragraphs about how programming like that is a waste of time (except to add that I really do not like Design U).

I too am growing tired of Mike Holmes and although the work he does is great and so helpful to the homeowners, his design taste is lacking and the finished product is often boring.

I love shows like Relocation, Relocation, Home to Flip and Location, Location.  I adore Sarah Richardson's designs on Sarah's House like everyone else, but enjoyed her much more on Design Inc. when she HAD to stay on budget (and although I love Tommy too, I miss the rest of the team).  Seeing her take a homeowner into account when designing a space is what makes her work special and unique.  Having unlimited money and staff to build her own vision for a home seems to me to be underusing her talent.

I live in Edmonton and constantly wish for more western (not just B.C.) content as an outdoor pool would be something we would never be able to install.  There is so much to discover- a tour of interesting homes from around the whole country would be amazing; learning more about making eco friendly choices for the home in design; or best places to live for quality of life in Canada.  As well, I'd really like to see new young designers with fresh ideas, (by the way, Samantha Pynn seems a little obsessed with adjectives and her designs aren't that inspiring-they look like a catalog page from IKEA) who are creative, but not tacky.  I think you need to strike a balance so that the viewer feels impressed and inspired by what they see, but also is able to achieve the look, or at least come close.

This is sounding a little negative so I want to add that I love HGTV and my husband often suffers through my favorite shows with me, and sometimes he even enjoys himself!  Thanks for asking for the viewers opinion.  I'll be eagerly looking forward to the new year of programming.

January 6, 2009 7:28 PM

This Old House - Canadian Version!!!  Surely we have a Norm and a Tommy?!?  (but I do love Sarah Richardson's Tommy too).  We need to see people loving their old houses in Canada - we have some wonderful architecture in many different styles including Canadian Regional Vernaculars!  We would gladly have you start with our 100 year old Newfoundland Merchant Home on the ocean!   Our future is in our past and it drives me crazy watching designers paint over vintage fumed oak paneling and ignoring the historical character of the home they designing for.  More British programming would be wonderful as well.  Thanks!

January 6, 2009 8:14 PM

Iam so tired of fix it shows like Mike Holmes. Would like to see more gardening and design shows for normal people who arent rich. And the new shows that were just added are just not good Ithink good design shows like pure deisign are worth watching most els thats on now is really a waste of time.Like Mansions and all the real estate programs.Get back to how it was when HGTV was first aired they were much better shows

January 6, 2009 8:26 PM

Sarah, Sarah and more of Sarah!  Sarah Richardson's programs are my favourite!  keep them coming!

January 6, 2009 8:33 PM

More sarah's house and would love to see sarah's "other types of properties"  i.e. farm, cottage, condo, townhouse, rowhouse, ski chalet, beach house and on and on!  etc etc and more design inc.  It's all great!  Also love tommy smythe!

January 6, 2009 9:08 PM

oh - forgot - Sarah's boutique hotel!

January 6, 2009 9:10 PM

1st. Anything with Peter Falico. His Flipped house is one of the best homes on HGTV.

2nd. I agree with another commenter... a DIY or renovation show with a more reasonable budgets. Like refacing kitchen cabinets or trimming them up and painting them instead of always putting in a 3-5k set of cabinets.

3rd. MIKE HOLMES!

January 6, 2009 9:31 PM

agree totaly with davenino....lets get more realistic....however we do wach to get some good ideas from all shows....i love my two feries...so funny....for me it has nothing to do with dacorating...it is exelent however..they ate too funny...style dept...snoby...bea from petrolia ontario

January 6, 2009 9:45 PM

use ideas from wnetwork design shows especially SAVE US FROM OUR HOUSE and COLOR CONFIDENTIAL

January 6, 2009 10:56 PM

Congrats to HGTV Canada Producers - I am very impressed with the graphic design / production quality of the majority of the Canadian (read Toronto) made shows.

The Pynn show, Falico, Richardson shows are all stand-outs in the way they are made and look on the screen.

We certainly put the US HGTV shows to shame.

January 6, 2009 10:57 PM

I'd love to see a "Get the Look" show! While I adore Sarah (and Tommy!) I'd love to see the same 'look' with Walmart prices.

I'd also like to see more DIY and decorating tips for the regular homeowner. What's the right way to dress a bed? How do I get the best look for my dresser?

Can't stand The Fix. There's absolutely no point to the show. I learn nothing, get no tips. So I switch networks when that's on.

When is HGTV going digital?

January 6, 2009 11:23 PM

Love all things Sarah Richardson - but more Design Inc. (I too miss the whole gang) then Sarah's House. Really enjoy Pure Design and Home to Stay/Flip.  Also liked the Designer Guys, Style Dept. and Relocation Relocation.

I agree with others - Mike Holmes is too overplayed.

January 6, 2009 11:27 PM

Agree with many of the comments here, less of the shows featuring people with seemingly unlimited budgets, and instead have more realistic situations. Show the prices of furniture etc, and where they are available. Although I live in Ontario I think there are too many shows based in Toronto.

I like Sarah Richardson but preferred it when she did smaller design work and not so expensive. 'Sarah's House' is way over the budget of many people. Even one room in that house would be more than some people's budget for the whole house! That's one of the reason's why I prefer Peter Fallico's programs....more realistic! I also like Pure Design.

I love the British shows like Relocation Relocation, and Build a house in the country....the one about renovating old barns etc, however I think I've seen every episode of Relocation Relocation so many times it's now boring! Please bring in any new shows that are available in that series!

Less of Mike Holmes please! I used to enjoy his show, but now I find it's just a repeat of everything he's done already! It seems like he's on half the time and taken over the channel!

More gardening shows from a variety of locations across the country would be nice. Also features on small homes, condo's, townhomes etc.

I'm a Senior but I still have a strong interest in decorating and gardening...but on a strict budget....and have had to downsize, more shows featuring these real life situations would be helpful.

Shows on organising and decluttering etc! What happened to 'Neat'? I enjoyed that show, many helpful tips on there.

Thank you for the opportunity to voice my thoughts.

Sarah's House!!  Design Inc. and Home to Flip are also good.

January 6, 2009 11:50 PM

I'll start by saying that I really enjoy HGTV.ca.  You do an amazing job.

While I agree with some of the negative comments I must also say that I really appreciate seeing the higher end (more expensive) "challenges" as I really believe that you need to see outside your comfort zone every once in a while as it is a great opportunity to get some terrific ideas.  Now, a show that helps you do it on the cheap is a good idea too.  And the comment made earlier of providing online shopping options is a great idea for those of us who live in areas that don't have access to many stores.

Love Sarah Richardson in all her productions.  Can she do both another single project and more design work for clients?  What, she has a life... :)

Although we do like Mike Holmes we agree that there are too many reruns - but that is an issue with ALL networks and most shows.

Not fond of "The Fix" but perhaps younger viewers enjoy it - and after all you are trying to provide entertainment for a variety of viewers and not everyone likes the same thing.

So, from this viewer, and her husband, we would like to see more of what you've been doing PLUS many more gardening shows (you disappointed me last year), more Canadian content (at least ideas that would work in our climates, with products we can purchase here and please, coast to coast to coast), and a few shows that deal with woodworking projects and carpentry work (I agree there must be a Canadian Norm).

We can't possibly be asking for too much!  Can we?  Anyway keep up the great work and thanks for the opportunity to comment.

January 7, 2009 12:23 AM

I agree with the previous comments in mention to Sarah Richardson's design shows..they are absolutely wonderful but not financially realistic for the average person.

I found the 2nd Sarah's house to be less appealing..some of the design styles arent quite what I came to expect from Sarah...dont get me started on the marble in the laundry room.

Fresh new shows of Design Inc would be great.

Home to Stay and Home to flip are great..reasonable budget and great style...even my husband will watch..

Property Virgins is a good show as well..just need new episodes.

Mansions is great for your imagination.

Pure Design is a good show as well..its interesting and creative.

Homes on Homes ..I like Mike and keep him, but change his time to something different at dinner time.

Dont like the UK shows that much.

DIY shows..not my thing but keep them for those that like them..

Love house hunters..not so much the international one.

Designer guys..not so much.those 3 rich real estate guys..not so much either...Dont like -Home Heist and the Fix, Ambrose Price.

In general, fresh new shows..design, and organizations ones as well..

I am an addict of HGTV..so I have seen just about every episode that has come on..Please refrain from repeating some episodes in such a short span..

Otherwise..HGTV is great!

Kaye, Toronto, Ontario..

When we decided to build new I thought I'd better start watching HGTV.  I have enjoyedvarious shows but I find nothing is geared towards a first time home builder.  I would have loved info on picking out your windows before your house is even built or what changes can be made after your blueprints are done...found that one out.  Or any helpful info on kitchen design etc.. interior decorators are not easy to find.

As well I agree with earlier comments, I'm building in Saskatchewan we don't even have an IKEA.   A show on "virgin" home builders would be nice, I don't need to dedo or decorate a room I have a house tofigure out!!

January 7, 2009 8:41 AM

More Sarah Richardson and Tommy!!!!

Bring back Design inc., it's such a great show... The budget of the clients are higher than mine, but we can make something creative with less, just getting inspired by those episodes.

January 7, 2009 9:00 AM

More gardening please!

I love Sarah Richardson's shows -- someone said her design is predictable but that is what I love; her wonderful and always stunning design!!

The exotic versions of House Hunters (finding properties in Belize and the like) are wonderful escapism, particularly in mid-winter like now!

January 7, 2009 9:18 AM

Although I love most of the shows on hgtv, there needs to be more representation outside the box of Toronto. Why not explore the Niagara region? Less U.S. & U.K.. After all this is "suppose" a Canadian based network. And please show us ideas with a reasonable price tag that the average person can use.

January 7, 2009 10:14 AM

Love most of what is on now, except for take it outside....um we live in Canada !  Would love to see more gardening shows.

January 7, 2009 10:43 AM

I really enjoy everything about Sarah Richardson design, but i would love to see more of Peter Fallico work. He's incredibly talented and creative. He can work with more realistic budget. It would be nice that HGTV makes a website for his show, just like Sarah's house or Design inc.

January 7, 2009 10:54 AM

My most favorite is Sarah Richardson, have been a fan since Room Service, but I agree with others who say her budget should be more realistic! Agree also that the shows should not all be from Toronto, my second favorite is Peter Fallico's "home to stay"

January 7, 2009 11:10 AM

More design inc. and new Holmes on homes.  No more american flipping shows they are all way to greedy.  And some CANADIAN gardening shows in spring and summer, sometimes you would think the channel is called HTV not HGTV

January 7, 2009 11:22 AM

Would love to see more redecorating of suburban homes... especially reusing existing pieces and ways to edit a room. In 2009, we won't be spending a lot of money on decor. How can I get a fresh, new look with what I've already got? And, yes, I live in the burbs in a box house that needs some help!

January 7, 2009 11:25 AM

I adore Handyman Superstar!

January 7, 2009 11:28 AM

MORE SARAH'S HOUSE! my mom and I are totaly addicted to it right now.

January 7, 2009 11:33 AM

Love Sara Richardson (and Tommy of course) and Peter Falico - really liking Pure - some nice ECO ideas (what shops/auctions do they go to? - that would be interesting info...)

like location, location, location and relocation etc.... but tired of the repeats (obviously watch way too much HGTV which I've started calling "HOLMES" and Garden TV - please - enough already - way too much of this show.

would also like to see more garden makeover shows --- mine really needs one if you're looking for a volunteer

January 7, 2009 11:44 AM

I absolutely LOOOOOVE Sarah Richardson.  I would love to see a show dedicated to doing kids rooms.

January 7, 2009 11:49 AM

I love Holmes on Homes, Sarah Richardson, Peter

Falico and I hope to see more gardening shows.  I would also like to see Jon Eakes again, his tips were so helpful and his explanations so simple.

January 7, 2009 11:49 AM

Sarah Richardson (who doesn't) but with a much more realistic budget for the rest of us. Yes, I know she used a vintage bath vanity and Ikea kitchen in SH but so much else was high end and custom, it is unattainable for most ppl. Peter Falico is perfect, however. Home to Flip was a great reno with realistic spending. Loved the fact that in each episode he got in there and did something himself or introduced a DIY project. Most ppl. doing renos love this kind of advice--it's a great way of saving a bit and gives a wonderful sense of satisfaction.

January 7, 2009 12:05 PM

Tired of Mike Holmes  Love Sarah's house and Design Inc format.  Peter Falico stole the show this season in Flip that House and love Home to Stay.  Home Heist is great as this show is not afraid to take a risk in colour and design and have good taste ! Love the Unsellables this keeps it real and real budget of what can be done! I like the outdoor design spaces but once again they are doing a very high end outdoor entertaining area we are the real people with limited budgets..Perhaps high end/low end version. What can I say I am home design addict.  I would suggest small space design, but with someone that can make it spectacular and cozy.  Not all that minimal look.. Or take a regular city town home or small house and show what can be done to make it stylish.  You should go on the road with the show and you could use my space as the makeover

January 7, 2009 12:23 PM

My pet peeve?  Revealing the finished room at the beginning of the show.  What's the point in watching?

I like Mike Holmes, but his show is aired way too much.  Also like Peter Falico with his more down to earth budget.  Pure Design is another good one.

Can't stand Linda Reeves or her show.

I'd love to see a new show with Lynn Spence and/or Ramsin Khachi taking us through room make-overs that the average person can afford.

More outdoor curb appeal and garden design shows would be nice.

Less house flipping and mansions.

January 7, 2009 12:41 PM

I am an avid watcher of HGTV. Love almost everything but would like to see more craft project types of programming like Carol Duval in the U.S.

Also gardening on a budget regionally would be nice. When you live in a small town that does not have big stores it would be nice to have references to online purchases .

January 7, 2009 12:51 PM

I love HGTV! Peter Fallico's 'Home to Flip' was terrific this year. I love that he's hands-on (not just shown shopping), he talks about his budget and it's usually modest enough that many people can relate to it, and he has such a great sense of style. I also really like 'The Unsellables'; both the premise and the cast because they show how many people get accustomed to their environment and lose their perspective on how it looks to others.

Before I bought my first house, I was a regular viewer of 'Property Virgins', 'House Hunters', 'Designed to Sell' (Lisa makes $2000 stretch an incredible distance), 'Location, Location, Location', 'Design U', 'Designer Guys', and 'My Parents House'.

Since we've started working on our home, my interest has shifted towards diy shows and renovations. 'Income Property' is very informative and the spaces are staged beautifully. 'Love it or List It' was a great premise altho the reno budgets seemed very large (& the property prices astronomical ~ but that's Toronto for you).

I really enjoy 'Disaster DIY' because it's so realistic of what people's homes look like when they try to diy without adequate thought, preparation or the skill-set. And, I admit it, I have a huge crush on Bryan Baeumier; he's handsome, handy, funny and patient enough to teach people too! What a man.

I just returned from a week in the States and was captivated by a show on their DIY Network called 'Renovation Realities' that follows real people as they start, struggle through, and complete (or almost complete) their own renos. It was like drawing the curtain back on all of the other shows and illustrated how hard some jobs are if you are not a professional and are trying things yourself for the first time. And it demonstrates how hard the work can be, the challenges that inevitably arise, and how often the best planned schedule and budget has to be abandoned in the face of suprises, accidents and supplier problems.

Another show in the same vein was "Sweat Equity'. Alot of Canadians like me are interested in investing in improving their homes in ways that will pay off when  it's time to sell. And we can't afford to do the work if we pay others to do it so this was both informative and entertaining. Finally, my husband enjoyed the testosterone in 'Man Caves' and a similar format in Canada would be easily made with our national obsessions of sports (hockey), hunting, tinkering, beer, etc.

Keep up the good work!

January 7, 2009 1:11 PM

I think HGTV Canada should invest all of their money in developing several clones of Sarah Richardson.   The only shows I watch are her shows, and Peter Fallico.  My vision for a perfect HGTV Canada schedule would be a whole bunch of different Sarah shows (it would be possible with the clones), and a few Peter Fallico programs that show us how to get Sarah looks for less!

January 7, 2009 2:27 PM

I truly love Sarah Richardson.  I could watch her shows all day, and nothing but her shows.  The only thing I would change is her budgets though.  We really need more realistic budgeting (a la Design Inc as opposed to Sarah's House).  That's actually one of my complaints for most shows on HGTV:  I really don't like all these shows with unlimited or unrealistic budgets.

January 7, 2009 2:30 PM

I get what everyone is saying about realistic budgets, but lets face it, shows with realistic budgets wouldn't be as entertaining. We have all seen shows like trading spaces that function around $1000 dollar budgets and more often than not the rooms turn out terrible.

We wouldn't get to see many new products with limited budgets. Besides, most people who hire designers to do their homes make a higher than average salary.

I absolutely Love Sarah Richardson and any show she has done. Yes her budgets are a little on the high side, but if you look hard enough and really do your research you can copy all of her looks for a lot less. Believe me, I've done it. Most cheaper furniture retailers are selling furniture with similar lines to what she uses. You just need to know where to look and put your own personal spin on it. She used a lot of IKEA products in the most recent Sarah's House so she did actually have a lower budget this time around. It was the pool that really pushed her over.

Also, anyone who wants to see 'good looking cheaper renos' they don't exist. I'm not sure if you've ever renovated but it does cost a lot no matter what you are doing. Its the labour costs that make the prices go so high.

So I guess this puts me into the group of people who are happy with the budgets the way they are!

Oh and Samantha Pynn rules as well. And I can't forget Tommy! Love him!

January 7, 2009 2:54 PM

Oh and to the person who wanted more Style Department shows. I doubt they will be making any new episodes seeing as the magazine that is featured on the show is no longer in print. This month was Wish's last issue ever. Bummer I know!

January 7, 2009 2:58 PM

I like Jason's idea - they should just clone Sarah Richardson, and rename themselves to the Sarah Richardson network :)

January 7, 2009 3:37 PM

I really enjoy shows such as Sarah's House & Design Inc however, I do agree with the others that their designs are far beyond the average person's budget.  Which is why I also love Home To Stay as they cater to real people with realistic budgets.  While I do enjoy Samantha's designs on Pure Design, I am disappointed in her over-use of the buzz word eco-friendly.  I have yet to see her use any truly eco friendly materials.  I fail to see how purchasing a kitchen from Ikea which is manufacture over seas helps to reduce our carbon footprint.

Other fav shows include, Location Location & the Designer Guys.

I live in BC and find that the daytime programing is lacking.  Don't enjoy watching repeats of Extreme Makeover.  Also don't like shows like The Fix & Real Renos.

January 7, 2009 4:03 PM

Giving these economic times, I would love to see a show like the Great Home Giveaway brought back.  Make it a contest like the Dream Home Giveaway in the States, open to everyone in the country, but give away a house that the average person would be able to maintain.

January 7, 2009 4:39 PM

Why doesn't the hgtv.ca website have a message board like they have on hgtv.com?

Also where can one find product info. that is seen on a show? Thanks.

January 7, 2009 5:52 PM

I love Sarah Richardson, never have enough of her!

Too much Holmes on Homes... even though it's a good show. Just too much of it.

Too much real estate shows. It doesn't really appeal to me. Neither does the Pedal Pushers. I like flowers... but shows like that are incredibly pointless.

I like design shows, befores and afters... Shows that help people learn more about interior design... or how to make their home better.

January 7, 2009 6:03 PM

I too love Sarah Richardson(and Tommy) and Peter Fallico.

I am also starting to like Pure Design with Samantha Pym.

What I would like to see are more shows from across our country. I am sure there must be many decorators out there as well.  Please give us shows where the budgets are reasonable and items used easy to find in smaller centres.  I can't relate to Mansions or homes in the$500,000.00 and up bracket.  People who can afford these homes can also afford their own designers.

January 7, 2009 6:08 PM

Design Inc. is my favourite ... would like to see new episodes.  Also love Peter Felico and Disaster DIY is great in that it really shows you HOW TO ACTUALLY DO IT ... even got my husband's attention for that reason.  Also like Restaurant Makover.  Mike Holmes is on way too often and The Fix and Home Heist is a waste of time.  With regards to The Fix I am amazed at all that material just wasted and sent to landfill just to make a show... Unbelievable!!!

January 7, 2009 6:10 PM

a few thoughts since you asked...

1) enough of the mike holmes already

2) verb usage: no more "paint out" "trim out" "change out" and enough of the word actually. "what I actually did, was I actually changed out the knobs to be more on trend and painted out the walls.." argh! don't get me started on the use of the word "mixture"...

3) show some diversity. rooms/homes with layers that reflect the homeowners. ie books, real artwork (not "oh we need some art. let's go to a warehouse"), ethnic elements that actually (oops there's that word) come from the place they represent.

4) stop applying the term "eco-chic" to anything made of wood or a natural fibre. it takes more than that to be truly eco friendly. more stuff is just more stuff which is quite the opposite of eco-friendly.

thanks for the rant.

January 7, 2009 8:06 PM

My favs are the renovation / decorating shows. Disaster DIY is my new favourite. Brian is such a hoot to watch. Still enjoying Holmes on Homes & nice to see Real Renos back. Home Heist was another fav, but I'm not crazy about the change in the format this season. Ditch the narrator.

Something I would like to see more of is recycle based renovation projects. Good example was the Disaster DIY episode using kitchen cupboards set from Habitat for Humanity. How to re-use/repair/re-purpose items...

Going green as well as helping those of us with real life budgets.

January 7, 2009 9:16 PM

A 100% ditto to what Jack says above. "Painting out" -- ARRRRGGGHH. Also, mislablelling a look just to showhorn in a design catch phrase -- eg Hollywood Regency (few people who bat this one around really know what it is)

Also, I think the complaints are interesting about supposedly too high budgets. Here's what I think the real truth about that issue is: 1. Many people don't know the real prices of renovating and decorating -- whether it's a sofa or tile or a kitchen. Eg. when they encounter a sofa that costs more than $500 they are shocked. Pros like Sarah R know it's smart to spend good money on good quality. I guess what I mean to say is that the REAL truth about great decorating -- on TV or otherwise -- is it costs money -- real money. 2. I compare the complaints about big budgets in the decor TV to similar complaints about how models in fashion mags are too skinny. Face facts: If you want to see low to mid budget interiors you can look around your own house (who needs a giant flat screen when you have 360 degree 3D -- ha) and if you want to see an average size person dressed in fashion, look in the mirror. Are you entertained and inspired or sad and bored to tears? Just what I thought -- most of us prefer decor TV and fashion mags to be a cut above our real life -- that's what inspires us -- we just don't like to admit this to ourselves.

January 7, 2009 11:31 PM

Jamie, could not have said it better myself.

And for those who want to compare Peter F to Sarah Richardson, his budget is lower because he does less, and does not furnish all his rooms, and if he does, most of the time he borrows stuff or uses stuff from home...Sarah brings the whole package with deluxe style, that's why her shows are so successful. maybe her budgets are higher than we would like, but the shows are meant to inspire you to get up and try something out yourself.

January 8, 2009 12:35 AM

Love, love, love Sarah Richardson, Tommy Smythe, Peter Falico ... you know - all the great Canadian shows.

The Brits are fabulous.  Different personalities, and nice to see the different perspectives on lifestyles.

I wish Extreme Makeover - Home Edition was not on HGTV.  I can't even express how much I dislike that show.  I understand and admire the good things they are doing for the families in need, but I don't believe it is a program that contributes in any way to give viewers any building, decorating or gardening advice.  You only need watch the last 15 minutes of any episode to see the end results.

January 8, 2009 11:05 AM

More Property Virgins, House Hunters and House Hunters International,

Home to Stay, Home to Flip, Real Reno.  Enjoyed the program A House In (France, Italy etc)

Would like to see more garden shows. Not a program showing gardens in our countries, but a get down and get dirty garden show, showing different plants that go in different places in the garden, in other words a show that will show how to plan a garden, the actual buying of plants and planting them.

January 8, 2009 11:45 AM

REAL GREEN SHOWS, PLEASE!

O.K., I do enjoy Pure Design, but it's not really and truly a green design show. We can all re-use items that we've got at home in some shape or form. We get that. But what about teaching us more about real green materials, where to get them, how much they cost, how to use them, what are their green advantages, etc?

The States has a whole network dedicated to this. We need to get on that already.

Also, enough with hours and hours of Holmes and the snore fest that is Style Department.

Other than that, I'm good. :) Happy with the most of the content you guys are putting out there. Still much better than HGTV US in my opinion!

January 8, 2009 9:52 PM

I like all your programing...please never get rid of Colin and Justin's Home Heist...from the moment I start watching their program ...I have a smile on my face that stays for the full hour!   Yes they can be over the top...but only they can pull it off with style and class!   Love all the British programs as well.  Keep up the good work.  I'll be watching!

January 9, 2009 12:23 AM

One other show I think warrants mentioning that I didn't see anywhere else, is "Buy Me". I don't exactly know why I like the show. There are no great decorators that swoop in to redo the houses and the people for the most part are just ordinary people...no mansions..no over the top fixutres..no superstars!!! and yet I really like the show..I guess i can relate to these people and having bought and sold I can also relate to the stressfullness of selling and the ups and downs of real estate..Unfortunately like many other shows it is essentially all reruns currently airing and the show has moved so many times on the schedule that it is hit and miss if I see it at all...

January 9, 2009 11:42 AM

Love Hgtv.ca  Love Peter Fallico, Sarah Richardson and her whole team, Sam Pynn. I would like to see casting calls on the west coast. Beautiful BC is being missed and also we have some wonderful design shops on Vancouver island. I would love Peter to come to my house! Keep up the great work HGTV.

January 10, 2009 12:41 AM

More Samantha Pynn!  I love that show!

I love the designs and her style.  The kitchen with that photographer was so great.  It's nice to see a fresh young face with so much talent.

I also like the Real Renos show too.

January 11, 2009 2:34 PM

Any chance you might carry "Keys to the Castle" at some point in the future?

January 11, 2009 4:47 PM

I like eating a lot of pancakes.  and i like to but i can't so then i did but you didin't so then we had some salads dressings are nice.

January 11, 2009 9:54 PM

I find Holmes on Homes show very, very depressing.  All it does it point out all kinds of problems in homes, and then he fixes them with the most expensive contractors none of us could ever afford.  Who has the perfect house?  Who can afford the kind of "perfect" repairs that Mike Holmes does, with all the most expensive contractors at his disposal and using the most expensive products?  Most of us live in a house with some type of problem, and watching Mike Holmes show condemning every flaw just sinks me into a depression when I watch it.  I'm sure we'd all love to have Mike Holmes at our disposal, free of charge, to repair any and all of our house problems.  But we don't and we never will.  So him showing us how to fix problems like we were millionaires - I find it very arrogant.  No Mike, we are not all millionaires like you.  We have to fix things within a budget.  Show us how to repair things with a reasonable amount of money....not "the-sky's-the-limit" repairs that you do (and that none of us can afford to do), and your show would be enjoyable to watch.  We need a more down-to-earth fix-it show along the lines of Jon Eakes.  I hate Holmes on Homes.

January 13, 2009 10:19 AM

I agree with all the previous comments about too much Holmes.

As well love Sarah, Tommy and Peter Fallico.

Why did you get rid of " Find Your Style" I thought it was an excellent show and was very disappointed when you took it off.

The fact that you have shows such as "The fix"and Anbrose Price is very disappointing.

Even though I am a home owner I really like your new show " For Rent" I think it nice to realize that not everyone is a home owner and still would like a nice place to live even if renting. I also like "income property" I think this show is very informative. Another one of my favourites is " The Unsellables" very realistic.

Please bring back "Find your Style" and more contests.

January 14, 2009 10:52 AM

More Sarah Richardson! design inc., Sarah's House, you name it! Also, please put more episodes of design inc. online. Thanks!!

January 14, 2009 12:57 PM

Where to begin?

a) Provide an option on this entire website, for 'comment is not related'. It would assist you in monitoring the site.

b) More 'casting calls' beyond the scope of Toronto.   In Ottawa, Canada's Capital city for example.   Check out our Yellow Pages for

our supply of available Retailers and/or Tradespeople.  The choice is pathetically limited and this aspect alone would be a challenge to any Decorator.

c)  I agree with others;   more contests would be nice.

d)  I notice a lot of critiscm re reality/budget but lately I have observed on many of the shows;  the recycling of existing furniture.  Even Colin & Justin are beginning to do it. (Way to go gentlemen!)

e)  I would love to see a HGTV Canada  Designer Super Challenge  featuring your  top Designers (and their team)....but with a twist.... each would do  two rooms with  'High and Low End' elements.   The same living space with the same look for less  $$$'s.  (Similar to Style At Home Magazine monthly features.)

Not only would it be a great challenge between Design Colleagues and educate your  viewers,  but   it would  also provide  exposure to this website as the viewing public  could vote for their favourite and determine the winner.     (Just a thought.)

January 15, 2009 2:57 PM

I'm a long time HGTV fan, but have to say, I've begun to think that the  "H" in HGTV- stands for "HOMES" - too much of anything is not always a good thing. It's the same story every single episode, I can't tell one from the other. Nice people hire a crappy contractor and Mike the Hero comes in to fix the problem which was always MUCH larger than originally anticipated. Surprise! Surprise!!

I and I'm sure many of your viewers are a little tired of the same old programs and the same old repeats whenever we tune in.

I've seen a couple of the New shows. Ambrose Price, Pedal Pushers, For Rent.. and I have to say that they are all highly unique and full of great personalities. It's about time you recruited some of this young fresh talent and gave us all a break from Mike and his endless supply of overalls.

The Flower show is so welcome on a cold night, it's bright and colourful and fun. Not all of us can afford $40K kitchen renos, but we can all go out and buy a small bunch of flowers at the supermarket on the way home. It's something I never thought could brighten my day, but after watching an episode I did.. first time in years!!! IT brightened my room and cost less than $20!

After watching that nutty east-coaster... I decided to bake and decorate a batch of cupcakes really soon.. probably this weekend. It was fun and silly and inspired me.

Please give us more of this younger, hipper and useful programming, and repeat it on the weekend so I can catch it when I'm home.

Still love anything Sarah.. I still think she's adorable.

Catherine

I'm fine with the content and quantity of the Holmes on Homes episodes and think that it is a good idea for people to see his quality of work. As a REALTOR® I take a particular interest in seeing how he trouble shoots various problems. I would, however, like to see an oppportunity for Mike to end shows by taking a question from a viewer and answering it on T.V.. For example, on a recent show they ripped up a hardwood floor in the kitchen of a home that had suffered some minor water damage. The cause of the water damage didn't seem absolutely clear. The kitchen had a skylight that had, perhaps, leaked at one time. I was wondering if the problem in the kitchen related to condensation on the inside of the skylight dripping down on the floor - due to an undersized kitchen exhaust fan and or the absence of an exhaust air intake, up in the area of the skylight opening. Older skylights can, also, have thinner air spaces on their insul units! I was currious about the aforesaid and don't recall anything being mentioned on the episode in question. Mike ended up putting down a nice slate floor with in-floor heat - after having removed and replaced the kitchen cabinets.

I love Peter Felicos' shows. His projects all seem affordable for the everyday Joe. I also like Sarah Richardson but its seems her decorating/renovating  is getting a bit more extravagant than it use to be.  I watch HGTV all the time and get some great ideas for decorating and renovating my own house. I would like to see more one level smaller bungalows done. Maybe get out of Toronto into small areas of the country. Alot of places only have big box stores to shop at.  However, I am not too keen  on the international shows.  The fix as well as Mike Holmes is getting kind of boring. You watch one or two of them and then you know what is coming..

Would love to see more shows by Sarah Richardson and Peter Fallico, as well as other Canadian designers.  I am not a big fan of any of the British shows.  House Hunters and For Rent are interesting as it's always fun to try to guess which place will be the choice.  I agree with other comments that shows set in other locations in Canada would be appealing as would shows with more realistic decorating budgets and home sizes would be interesting.  Most people do not have the budgets that appear to be available on the shows, or the square footage that is featured.  One feature of House and Home that I really enjoyed is the "More or Less" segment which shows items in various price ranges that achieve similiar looks.  Shows such as Colour Confidential are also interesting and make redecorating projects look possible and the shows on organizing and decluttering are motivational too.  Thanks for all the great information and entertainment.

HGTV is my channel of choice.  I would really prefer to have reruns during the summer months when we are outdoors more.

My Very Favourite shows:  Anything Sarah Richardson (Design Inc., Sarah’s House/Cottage)  and

Peter Fallico’s, Home to Stay  and Holmes on Homes

I like Mike Holmes and am looking forward to his new show but am concerned that  it is more about new builds than with renovations.

While I really like Samantha Pyne and her style, her show Pure Design is a clone of Sarah Richardson’s old Room Service

Can really do without:

Million Dollar Listing;  Mansions, The Property Shop; Extreme Makeover; The Really Big Flip. The Stagers was boring.  The Big Fix was a waste of time. Design U, Home Heist and absolute worst of all is The Decorating Adventures of Ambrose Price

Would like to see the return of:

Peter Fallico’s Home to Go (with Barb Purdy)  – a budget conscious show for Condo or apartment dwellers (with the markets the way they are we should be viewing more of these.)

New Property Virgins

New House Hunters

New Location, Location, Location Shows:  bring back Kirstie and Phil!

New Relocation, Relocation Shows;

Thank you for the opportunity to add my opinion

I would like to see pictures of Peter Fallico's series

Love the home staging shows.  Color Confidential is my favorite.  Not a big fan of Sara Richardson - too beige for me.

My husband loves Holmes on Homes and Disaster DIY.  Loved the shows you had when HGTV first came on the air.  More garden staging homes please.

We'd like to see new episodes of "Holmes on Homes" and "My Parents House".   It'd be great if Debi Travis was back on the air.  Also, it would be good to see Canada-wide housing, decorating, and gardening that is interesting, informative and affordable!  We desperately need an inspirational decluttering show similar to Helen Buttigieg's "NEAT".  A final suggestion: how about a practical gardening show for beginning gardeners and families with children - with episodes pertaining to all of Canada's growing Zones?

I don't see much mention of Love it or List it.  I usually like or appreciate everything Hilary does but most often I LOVE it. I'd also like to see what goes into David's searches for the perfect house to entice the client away from their newly, Hilary, renovated home. I guess I really relate to this show because that is my dilemma right now, STAY OR GO. How do I get Hilary and David to my house?

When are you bringing back Ambrose Price? Being from Nfld. it sure was nice to see some local talent on your channel. I like Home Heist,Disaster DIY, and yeah ,when are you bringing back Ambrose?  Ihave to agree with the comments I`ve read about Holmes on Holmes, enough already!!!! Would also like to see shows where real people on real budgets fix their homes.

Do so enjoy your channel, I like a variety of your shows, keep up the good work. My mom and sister would also like to know when our buddy Ambrose will be back? I`ll keep my eyes open for him.

Thanks

Kaye

I'm on the same page as Kaye...when will we see more of Ambrose? I did read online that his show was picked up by the U.S. I hope that we can still watch him here in Canada!

I too think that some of Sarah's designs are too ritzy for many HGTV viewers.  I love Peter Fallico, would like him to revisit some of his clients a year or two later to see what it looks like after it's been lived in for a while, and/or to do other areas of their homes.  Unlike some other posters I LOVE Design U, I think that there is practical information on this show and I like that they do it on a realistic budget.  I would like to see some shows from other areas of Canada, and not just the big cities.

I like the idea "Stay or Go" that some one mentioned above.  I would also like to see something on the lines of a comparison show, similar (not exactly the same) rooms one made over on a reasonable budget, and one where the sky's the limit price wise, and a break down of what was spent where.

I agree that I would like to see more gardening shows from different areas of Canada (eg zone 3) with plants that are readily available and what was spent.

I love HGTV and watch for design ideas on a budget.

I would love to see more content on all the shows, but particularly the design, renovation and real estate shows located in areas of the country outside of Toronto and Vancouver.  So many of us watching these shows are located elsewhere and do not feel connected to these cities.  There are many other areas of the country to explore and include and this would be a fresh new approach to the same old places.  The regions are limitless and would provide variety, new perspectives, interest and choice for viewers.  You could even do theme months or weeks in single provinces or regions.  I would definately watch that!

1. How about  decorating/reno shows from Australia or New Zealand, not just the U.K.

2. Energy audits and energy saving renos or new green construction to showcase what is available and what really is worthwile to use.

3. Very old shows from the 1960s or '70s with a modern introduction. These might be good for a laugh.

Whatever happened to The Ambrose Price Show? I keep looking for it and it's nowhere to be found. I really ENJOYED it! It was certainly a break away from all the serious programming and re-runs. Yes I like to be informed, but it's also nice to laugh for a change. I hope we haven't seen the last of Ambrose. Thanks, Janet George.

I enjoy watching "Home to Stay" hosted by Peter Fallico. I love his home renovation projects and ideas. The best part is the budget and the DIY's. Unlike some other designers, Peter and his team do not seem to have a DIVA complex. I would love to appear on his show if the calling happens.

A good DIY show for us older guys who know lots of stuff, but not enough to make a sideline business or coop style of operation where we can pass it on and keep young people informed of the oldschool tricks that often do a better job than new tools or short-lived materials.

How long will today's new homes survive? We've still got 100 year old homes standing strong and tall. Will the new ones?

Does copper plumbing outlast new plastic?

Is liquid tape good in other than marine or RV electrical applications?

hgtv does not let you express your true negative oppinions, they filter and block and did not use one bad word.
