Question of the Week: The Christmas Sweater? Over my Dead Body, or Bring it on?

Photo: TheFashionPolice.net

We laugh at them every year, and yet, a healthy quotient of our family, friends and neighbours turn up wearing their Christmas tree or Rudolph to the holiday soiree. What I want to know is, how many of those people genuinely believe their Christmas sweater brings a little holiday cheer and how many are wearing what is usually completely abhorrent with the intent to mock the former?

I ask this because they're everywhere (My family and I just did the neighbourhood potluck rounds.)! Is it that people think nothing ties together a room full of red, green and flashing lights like a busy sweater depicting the very same scene?

Is the Christmas sweater an integral part of decking your halls?  Or do you categorically refuse to make a tree of yourself?

Comments:

Can't bring myself to wear one but I don't mind them on other people. I LOVE some of the verging on cheesy stuff that Eddie Bauer has this year i.e. the plaid down vest and the reindeer sweater.

I wear my Christmas sweater for me, it makes me feel in tune with Christmas.  My daughter hates my sweaters, one in particular.  I actual don't buy new ones all the time, the ones I have are 15+ years old and still in good shape.

For my personal style, I am on the side..."over my dead body"  but...I don't mind seeing them on other people.  I work in a nursing home and see many sweaters as well as xmas track tops. They are very colourful and put a smile on many of the residents faces and that is what counts. If it makes you feel festive and good about yourself then wear it!

I say, "to each their own".   I personally would not wear one, but then again if I had to choose between them and some of the  so called high-style fashion trends that have appeared on the Runways of New York, MIlan, Paris etc., I'm afraid I  would opt for a Christmas sweater.....SMILES.
