Before and After: Home To Flip Living Room and Foyer

Last Thursday on Home To Flip, host Peter Fallico worked on the first impression rooms: the foyer and front room. In order to turn this outdated home into a buyer's dream, Peter had to add a closet in the foyer and some class to an ugly living area — most importantly, tackling the tacky fireplace.

The Foyer: The carpet on the stairs was ripped out and replaced with a neutral runner. The stairs and balusters were painted white and the hand rail was stripped then stained leaving the original wood to complement the new hardwood floors.

The Living Room: Also treated to new hardwood floors, the living room feels airy, sophisticated and cosy all at once. The fireplace was painted and a grander built-in mantle was added to cover the brick and incorporate some chic architectural details. Peter also managed to salvage the ceiling. It features plaster swirls and spirals that the team thought might have to be covered with drywall. By using a light fixture with a circular motif, Peter was able to pull the whole room together, adding a bit of whimsy with the existing ceiling design.

VERY NICE REAL CLASSY LOOKING.

December 19, 2008 2:24 AM

Peter has been around for awhile (so I have I...smiles) and he has always been one of my favourites (next to Sarah).  I am loving ALL what he has done with this project.   ie: I felt the decorative ceilings were tastefully done, so it was nice to see him leave them.  So very classic!  Chances are some day (like fashion trends)  they will return as a 'grand feature'  in the building of new homes.

What I admire most about Peter's work  is;  with his natural creativity he just seems to have the forsight 'n talent  to integrate design, function and practicality  to work in a harmonious advant-garde  way.

I'm thrilled Peter is finally getting his dues here on the web site.  As mrsben said (above) he has been around for a long time and he is one of my favorite hosts (also along with Sarah).  I've complained in the past that we don't get to "see" any of his work on the site and that has finally changed...here he is.

As for the room and the show, I think things are coming along so well.  Peter seems to be putting so much of his own labour into the project, I wish him all the best for the resale.

I too love watching Peter and his newest show "Home to Flip".  I have taped a number of his previous "Home to Go" and "Home to Stay" and enjoy watching them again and again....and again

Thanks Peter!!

I love watching this show ,but the kitchen reno was last night and I want to know where he gor kitchen cabinets for $7000

December 19, 2008 3:41 PM

I love this show and I don't understand why it doesn't get more attention on the HGTV web site. Although I'm a huge Sarah R fan; what I love and gratefully admire about Peter is that he always incorporates a DIY project. He makes you feel that you can achieve high design with a limited budget. Although SR does beautiful work most of the items she uses come from very high end (too expensive for most of us) stores. Taps, Saltillo, Elte. Yes, she throws in a few low-end finds but overall, her work comes with a very hefty price tag.

I'm pretty sure the kitchen  cabinets were from IKEA . . .Did anyone catch where the countertop was from?

Why can't we see all the before and afters from this show? This is a constant frustration of mine with all of Peter Fallico's shows. I give his teams credit for creating inspiring rooms but you are out of luck if you want stills of the rooms to actually take inspiration from any of their work. I consider this a huge downfall. Sarah Richardson, on the other hand, is a master of providing great pictures of her rooms. For this, I thank her.

I love all of Peter Fellico's shows...huge fan...always brings great ideas, very inspiring.  The changes he's made to the house is breath taking.  Great job wish him all the best!

December 21, 2008 3:41 AM

I agree, Peter should have more still pictures for inspiration.. I absolutely love his shows!

December 22, 2008 12:46 PM

Well thank goodness for this show...without it all HGTV seems to be airing is Holmes on Homes...

Hover, I always wonder after each episode why Peter sets a budget? He always exceeds it and then has an excuse...isn't he the professional?? If my home project went that way I would think I had done a poor job planning...

I love all of Peter's show's - this show is extra special to me and my family, this was my grandmother's house. We all love what you have done to it and know that my grandmother would have loved it too!

Thanks for making her house so beautiful.

I love Peter's show.  It's beautiful, practical, affordable and so much fun to watch.

Does anyone know where this living room chandelier is from?

December 23, 2008 9:57 PM

Backside! It look so nice!

December 26, 2008 8:08 PM

I would love a still picture of the kitchen and dining area. I am trying to make up my mind whether I should keep my formal dining or tearing down wall and opening kitchen and dining up. . I know that the open concept is popular but what about in 2 years, just went to an open house and it had eating in kitchen and dining area.

December 27, 2008 12:57 AM

I would love to know where that chandelier came from as well.

December 30, 2008 12:56 AM

I too would love to know where the ceiling light fixture for the living room came from.  I love Peter's work as much as Sarah's and agree that in many cases his work seems more achievable and realistic in terms of budget etc.  Please consider posting photos and information regarding his work on all his shows.  Would love to see another home flip by Peter.

It would be nice if maybe those who posted this page would also read that many viewers are asking questions about where to purchase items that they are showing. :( The living room is lacking major credits to where items were purchased from, and it's quite frustrating.

January 3, 2009 11:06 PM

Where was the light fixture bought? I love it.

January 4, 2009 8:42 PM

I would like to know where to buy the 8 X 10 striped rugs shown on the Dewbourne Avenue episode on HGTV Home to Stay hosted by Peter Fallico. Thank you for your help.

January 5, 2009 10:40 PM

Can you come to my house? :)

January 7, 2009 9:17 PM

For those looking for the Chandelier like myself, the Chandelier is called the Sausalito, which I found a collection of them online at Soholighting.com  - A simple google of Sausalito Lighting will work also. This is thanks to the help over from Apartment Therapy's website, where one reader was able to help me name the lamp.

January 9, 2009 5:28 PM

First, I have to say - thanks for posting the pictures from Home to Flip. Just wish there were more! And mostly, thanks to Lindsay for letting us know about the chandelier - very thoughtful.

January 9, 2009 11:53 PM

My pleasure! I was itching to find the chandelier - but was surprised to see, that up close, it's not as "gold" as I would have liked...It has quite a different finish to it, a mixture between gold/silver. And thank you also to HGTV for posting pictures - I absolutely adore Peter Fallicos home renos!

Does anyone know the exact location of this house? I live in Toronto and would love to drive by and have a look at the neighbourhood and exterior. Re. the chandelier I'm pretty sure he purchased it from Universal Lamp on Cartwright Ave. greatlighting.com

can't someone please tell us where this home is located?

Why  was the hardwood floor replaced? From the picture it looks perfectly fine... You could have saved a lot of money by just refinishing it or staining it... Hardwood flor is very durable and if it was damaged in areas it could have been replaced by area... that is much simpler and much less expensive than replacinmg all the floors through out

February 2, 2009 3:27 PM

Without us seeing the floors up close it's hard to fully judge why they were replaced. I know our floors could have been replaced, but the guy said.."Look, we can sand them and stain them, but dont walk in bare feet, you may get splinters..." since the floors were SO near the end of their life.

Secondly, if he was removing walls (which I think he did somewhere in the house) you would have to patch...and maybe new floors just worked.

March 2, 2009 12:21 AM

do you have any pictures of the front of this house?

March 10, 2009 2:28 PM

I've watched Peter's shows since he was on Home to Go. I loved what he did with lil or no $. I love to watch Peter rearrange furniture giving the sizing to certain spaces etc. Even though I don't have much $, I use his styles in my own home to at least make it feel more $$ than what it is.

Keep up the great Job!

March 21, 2009 6:39 PM

Is there anywhere to go to see a source sheet for all of the items used and the paint colors used?

March 27, 2009 2:26 PM

What is the name/brand of the paint used on the walls?

June 7, 2009 10:22 PM

Will there be a Home to flip II? Peter fallico has great ideas! Keep up the great work!!

I Peter, I would like to pursue my career in interior decor. I have already done some personal project home renovation which were highly praised by family and friends. If possible I would like to learn more by working with you. I always watch your show and strongly believe that the way you design and work it suits with my taste and the way I like to work. So pls. respond. My e-mail address is nshapla@hotmail.com. Hope to hear from you soon. Thanks.

Have watched you on TV from the beginning when you just had guest appearances.  Your style is wonderful!  I have enjoyed every one of your series starting this Home to Go!  Question:  What brand of paint did you use in your Home to Flip - the grey is amazing - can you tell me the name of it?  Or did you mix?  What did you mix?  I would love to pain my living room that colour.  Please keep up the good work and looking forward to your next adventure in decoration.

I absolutely love Peter's clean, contemporary & classic designer touch.  Just purchased a pre-sale townhome (first time home owners) and would love Peter & his crew to come and put some designer touch to it.....Vancouver, BC.
