Question of the Week: Nativity Scenes? Winter Villages? Yea or Nay? Samantha Pynn Weighs in via Video

As I've already mentioned, I'm not big on going over the top with holiday decor, but some of you go all out! Nativity scenes, villages, Santa and his reindeer occupying your front yard and so on...

Are you erecting Griswold-like elaborate holiday scenes or is your holiday decor a little more demure, or do you fall somewhere in between? What do you think of all this?

Samanthan Pynn of Pure Design has her say below.

Comments:

I love a Nativity Scene.  When our boys were young...the oldest one always was lifted up so he could place the star on the top of the tree.  The nativity scene was under the tree.. but not baby Jesus...   our youngest son always placed baby Jesus in the manger on Xmas eve.  Good memories!

I am with you on this one Jess.  Sometimes 'less is more', however as it is a celebration that only occurs once a year 'to each their own so .........decorate to your hearts content'.

If you enjoy doing it and it is not a competitive issue all the more power to you :)     WISHING YOU A JOYOUS SEASON AND A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I believe I fall somewhere in between.  I love for my whole house to feel festive.  I put all my regular "knick knacks" away to make room for all the holiday decor.  I love nothing better than sitting around a lit christmas tree.

Merry Christmas to all.  Decorate so that you are happy with what you created.

What would Christmas be without the birth of Jesus?  Every home should reflect the true meaning of Christmas somewhere.  And of course, baby Jesus is placed in on Christmas Eve!!

Merry Christmas to all!

Even if a house is overdone by my own standards, I still get a warm feeling seeing it!  We have evergreen, LCD lights and a nativity scene outside and lots of decorations inside.  To each his own!

I bought my nativity scene from Eatons with my first paycheque when I started working back in 1964.  Every year, through happy and sad times, through births and deaths, I have always put up the nativity scene.  It is my one sure thing in life, placing the baby Jesus in his place on Christmas Eve.

Merry Christmas to all.  May you all find peace and tranquility in your hearts.

My comment isn't quite on point but I will leave it anyway.  I am always puzzled why public places will join in the celebration of Christmas but refuse to call it "Christmas".  If a public institution does not want to recognize Christmas, or put up a nativity scene, then don't participate at all in the season!  Don't say "Happy Holidays", because the season is not just a "holiday".  Christmas is the observance of the birth of Christ.  If you don't believe in Christ, then don't observe the days off.  Go in to work and treat Christmas Day like any other day.  It seems hypocritical to ban "Christmas" so to speak, but then to participate in the season with gift-giving, special menus and time off from work.

I agree with you all.  Christmas should be all about the birth of Christ.  It's too bad that people forget that and children don't get it at all.  Most kids only think about what they want.  My little guy is only one, but I intend to make Christmas about Christ in this house, my step-children were too old to do that with, and they only come around when it's gift time, and only ask for the big gifts.  when I was a kid, gifts at Christmas were things you needed, and maybe something fun.  Now it's all about the money.  I hate that part.  Deck the halls, but make Christ the center of attention.  Merry Christmas to all.  Keep your heart happy with Christ this Christmas.  God Bless.
