Modern Outdoor Holiday Decorating

After the Santa Claus Parade passed, I decided that it was acceptable to start decorating for the holiday season. My interior space is always easy to decorate, but decorating my outdoor space is a bit of a challenge because the small space can easily look cluttered.

In order to manage and fully utilize my small patio space I decided to adopt a modern design approach to my outdoor holiday decor. I'm a huge fan of all shiny, glittery, and sparkly decorations and this was my inspiration. Red and silver were my indoor holiday colors so I decided to extend this color scheme outdoors with some bulbs, and other decorations that I had left over from decorating indoors.

I love the holiday bulbs that look like shiny disco balls and I made this arrangement out of a variety of different textured and different sized bulbs in order to create visual impact and infuse the space with a burst of color. Plant hooks are perfect for hanging a big grouping of ornaments as the hooks easily sustain the weight of the ornaments.

On either side of my back door I have a small spruce tree on one side and an empty planter filled with frosted white branches on the other. Simply placing some decorations in random spots on the tree and the branches instantly brightened up my entrance way with modern holiday spirit. Outdoor holiday decorating does not necessarily have to be expensive and elaborate and sometimes the modern "less is more" approach can be more elegant and cost efficient. Be creative and have fun decorating your outdoor space!

These are some other simple, but elegant modern outdoor holiday decorating displays to help illustrate the modern outdoor holiday decorating look:

I decorate my outside space with bulbs, LED lights, and bows. I get all of my outdoor ornaments from the dollar store that way if anything happens to them it doesn't matter. It's amazing what you can find in the seasonal decoration department of dollar stores.

I agree...if you get to the dollar store early when the decorations first come out you can get some wonderful items. They sell out quickly! I especially love the white twig decoration shown above.

I love the red & silver theme.  Very elegant and classy, without looking too Christmas kitschy.

Whoa. Who allowed this on the website?! Scary!
