Question of the Week: Is it Cheesy to Decorate Your Office or Work Space?

Having an office to go to myself, I'm feeling the collective pressure of getting into the holiday spirit. A little cheer I can certainly muster, but I’m not sure how I feel about decorating my work space.

I think there are two kinds of office people: those who fully move in – I’m talking plants, mirrors, charms, photo collages, shoe racks and even personal furniture items such as lamps, and those who leave no sign of themselves when they leave, but for a disgruntled pile of papers in the corner.

I’m the latter. I do however love to decorate, so it puzzles me as to why I have such sub-zero interest in giving my pod a holiday facelift. It’s similar to the feeling I get when I see a dog in a bonnet or a baby in a three piece suite… Am I being a Grinch?

What do you think of decorating your work space?

Comments:

It's  absolutely fine to decorate the work office.......appropriately, that is.  It shouldn't be overdone and should be in good taste, fitting to the type of business and surroundings.

I definitely think you should decorate your work office, at least a little!  It can be very depressing staring at blank walls day in and day out.  Why not put photos of people you love to add a smile to your day?

Nothing wrong with showing a little team spirit - I hang my Canadians paraphernalia with pride... it also reminds me of yester years when they were good, lol!  Ah, those were the days…

Decorate? No. Bring some personal comfort things to make it more bearable? Yes. I can't really comment though as I have never had a formal "Office" or "Pen" to go to. I have a home office, and if anything I guess you could say it was decorated by a "nuclear device" approach...everything everywhere all the time.

I would not dream of sitting at a desk all day without putting up some things to make me smile...pics of my hubby, bebe, and/or friends are essential. Not so big on the Xmas or Easter crap....though mebbe I just lack spirit :-)

Don't care much about decorating my office.  Just a couple of pics of my gal and little guy is enough.  Making my office too comfortable and personal will result in me spending too much time in it.  However, I can appreciate a good spread put on by others.

I'm not big on holiday office decorating. I put up cards from colleagues and suppliers but that's it. No tinsle and certainly NO mistle toe.

I think some small show of the festive season is o.k.

Putting a little thought into something that still has a Christmas feeling without being so OBVIOUSLY Christmas, is a good thing. Get a little creative, leave your usual ideas of the holidays behind!

I work in a retail environment and we were just talking about doing up our lunch room. It gets depressing looking at the boring walls and fluorescent lights and it will cheer everyone up and put them in the holiday spirit.

Office decor reflects the personality of its inhabitant and can spread that personality like a warm summer breeze or a nasty virus. I've positively delighted in some seasonal display, and recoiled in horror at others. That's just the way it is.

We are having a cubical decorating contest in my office. I don't think I will go all out but it will be fun to see the ones that do.

I will be nice to leave a Holiday cheer around. It not only boost your spirits, but others around you as well. The Holidayrs are near, so spread the CHEER!

I work at a very well establish oil company that has been producing for 40 years and it has always been traditional to live with the furniture that you're supplied with by the company. Now we are talking 9000 employees. Just recently we had a person transfer into our area (all brand new offices) and she decorated her office. It looks GREAT !!!!!!
