The holiday season is upon us and on my way home the other night I was dazzled by all of the brightly lit decorations that twinkled above the city streets. Seeing these decorations was my cue to begin thinking about how to decorate my home this holiday season. I always choose a contemporary color scheme which usually consists of a couple of colours for both my indoor and outdoor decor. However, when it comes to my Christmas tree, I follow a more traditional style so that I am able to display all of my ornaments and holiday heirlooms that have been passed down or collected from family and friends over the years.
Each year we have a huge holiday celebration and it is customary for each guest to bring an ornament to add to our tree. With each passing year our holiday ornament collection has grown significantly and one of my favorite holiday past times is to marvel at the variety of ornaments and to remember each person that brought each specific ornament.

It's definitely hard to pick a favorite as they are all special to me and each decoration holds a place in my heart, but my favorite would have to be a wooden nutcracker that my grandfather handpainted for me when I was a child. I remember watching him meticulously paint the nutcracker's face and then, when it was dry, we hung it on our tree together. This holiday heirloom always reminds me of him and I get all warm and fuzzy whenever I think about it...
