This company – or collective, I should say – really just looks at the age old tradition of decorative linens in a new way. Instead of fussy monograms and Victorian lace (not that there’s anything wrong with that, as proven by your response to the ‘doily’ question of the week), Australian-based Third Drawer Down uses everyday linens such as aprons, napkins, tea towels, pillow cases, bibs and handkerchiefs to promote the work of local and international artists.
The results are considerably more graphic, infinitely unique and downright framable! I have used two of their creations, the “Bunny Bumpkin” by Zara Wood and “Mamma” tea towel by James Gallagher, as part of my living room picture-frame wall, and now I’m aching for more. Their site is like a candy store!
Each design is screen printed in limited edition onto 100% natural material, and arrives at your door – wherever you are – in a graphic manila envelope of sustainable paper, numbered, and with artist information and details.
New artists and collaborations make for an ever-changing catalog of images, and the best part about these – the reason for their feature in this post today – is that they’re really affordable! Most linen products range between CAD $25 – CAD $65 (not including the postage) and I don’t know about you, but the last time I inquired about any creation that was limited edition, the price was NOT in the double digits.
