With college and university students moving out of their parents' house for the first time, they need advice of how to decorate their place on a budget. To not throw away your money, select pieces that will follow you for many years.

Many people give a face-lift to IKEA products. A friend of mine painted a series of FIRA mini chests white (above). She hung the boxes on her kitchen wall to store all her loose tea leaves. Urban Outfitters is popular amongst young adults. At $12, the Swede Geo lampshade (above right) infuses personality to an old lamp found at a garage sale or given by an old aunt.
