Question of the Week: Style Vs Comfort

Emu's Re-Trouvé red wireframe garden chair featured in the above photo (top row, middle chair) is charming and would look adorable in a modern, white kitchen or outside on the patio. Of course, something tells me that it’s not the type of chair I can spend all afternoon lounging on in the sun.

Style is certainly important, but what use is a chair you don't want to sit on? When decorating your home, what do you look for first? Comfort or Style? Leave a comment and let us know.

I look for stylish chairs that are comfortable for me to sit on.  What might be comfortable for me may not be for the next person.  We are all different in height and being a shorter person then my husband what is comfortable for me is not necessary comfortable for him.  It makes for a challenge if you are looking for matching chairs.  A comfortable stylish chair is what I look for.

I prefer comfort before style.

A chair must be comfortable or it is not worth buying.  I like a chair to look good and fit with my decor but comfort is the deciding factor

Comfort is definately more important to me than style, but at the same time style is important too.

Comfort is #1.  If we cannot sit around on the chairs and chat - and if they are so uncomfortable that people would rather leave, or sit on the floor - then they will not be found in my house!  Comfort is far more important than style!  But I do like to have some style with my comfort.

Comfort is definitely a priority when I'm shopping for furniture.  Style is important also.  It has to be astetically appealing and comfortable.

Comfort is very important however sometimes furniture pieces are strickly art in a room. As shown above those pieces would be used to make a statement, not to watch a football game in.

You should check out whitewashco.ca/shop for comfortable and stylish eco-friendly furniture.

I look for chairs that will fit in with my decor, but if it isn't comfortable,

the chair won't make it out of the store. What is pleasing to the eye

doesn't always translate to comfort.

When looking for a bedroom chair, style is key, it needs to be the right height, width, color, and what it's function will be. In the living room, comfort would be the necessary element, if it doesn't fit right, style will not matter. Dinning room, chairs comes with the added element of the table, which in itself is a whole other subject.

I look at the size and shape of the room, then the color combinations that would fit the person(s) style.  I ask questions of myself if it will be good ten years down the road with the changes that are made in stlye with the rest of the home. I like Native American and Nature, each person(s) have their own ideas.

In my book comfort always trumps style.  I don't have room in my budget or my house for furniture that can't comfortably be used.

Comfort rules! Very often, you can locate very stylish, comfortable chairs with out breaking the budget. In our house, there is no room for a simply stylish chair, it must serve as guest seating for dinner so it must be comfortable as well as fashionable. Vintage or second hand chairs are often diamonds in the rough. A bit of elbow grease, fresh paint or upholstery can result in a comfortable yet stylish chair.

Comfort is by far the most important factor in deciding on a chair as long as it fits into my decor. Having said that, it can sometimes be very frustrating finding just the right one.

Style at first to narrow down options, then final selection requires a test drive for comfort and practicality.  Otherwise you end up with the equivalent of some women's shoes that are apparently to die for, and rightfully so 'cause their feet are killing them after 5 minutes.

If it's going in an area where it's going to be used for a few minutes max (bench/chair in foyer, or sometimes breakfast counter stools) one can be more "compromising" if a certain "look" is desired.  Better not be used for very long tho...

I look for comfort that has style. first i look for colours and patterns, then i decide if i think it's comfortable enough. I have to be able to sit in it for periods of time and still be able to say it's comfy when i get up from it. it MUST be comfortable but i think there are SOOO many chairs out there that it can be decorative and stylish too.

Comfort>style. Of course.

That's why its always important to test grounds before buying modern peices. Though, You can find pure comfort and style in furniture.

I wouldn't buy furniture that wasn't able to be in use & afford comfot.

Thats what sculptures/ornaments are for! Ha.
