Decorating with Food

With the nice weather finally here, I hit my local farmers’ market in search of beautiful seasonal ingredients not for dinner for but for decoration. I was inspired by a recent restaurant opening where seasonal fruits and vegetables were used to create beautiful centrepieces.

There was a glass vase stacked with bright green asparagus and peas in their pods, one filled with brilliant purple artichoke hearts, and another stuffed with bright yellow lemons. My favourite was the tall vase filled with shaved raw asparagus, turnip and carrots. The shavings were made using a vegetable peeler.

There were also large bunches of exotic mushroom strewn about the table which completed the food-themed decor. The effect was striking and gorgeous. It’s easy to re-create these elegant food centrepieces at home. Trust me you’ll have your guests oohing and aahing in no time. The best part? You can cook with the ingredients when you get tired of looking at them. It’s economical and seasonal.

Super idea- and it's all Chef Jason Bangerter's from Auberge du Pommier here in Toronto. Just giving credit where it's due!
