When money is no object, it seems that the sky is the limit in pool design these days. The upscale in-ground pool market is booming; we’re talking water jets, fountains, waterfalls, grottos, islands, and elaborate sound and lighting systems.
The demand for negative edge pools is increasing in Canada (see below from Alka Pools in Burnaby, BC). For the
ultimate view, locate the edgeless parts of the pool so they seem to
drop over high ground. Breathtaking negative edge pools can be achieved
on a flat lot. Popular in Europe, this minimalist design
feels luxurious and calm.
Of course, most of us with a limited budget can only dream of such expensive pools. Other trends are more affordable.
The wet decks are really catching on, especially among families with young children. People enjoy sitting or resting on a few inches of water on a sunny day. Install a fence on a wet deck so it can act as a wading pool.
Wooden above ground and semi in-ground pools are in demand. This year Trevi introduced Taiga Zone, a collection of natural cedar pools (see below). A pine version is also available. The semi in-ground cedar pool looks sharp.
Aqua Lounge is a pool entry cast in one piece that can integrate lights and jets (see below). It is available on two above ground pool models from Aqua Leader. Add comfort to any above ground pools with a towel holder, a cocktail tray and an accessory pocket to store your small pool toys.
Regardless of trends, always consider the house exterior and your surroundings before you opt for a pool design. Aim for a seamless integration between the indoor and the outdoor spaces. Build a concept around a cohesive design. More importantly, make sure to create a safe swimming environment.
