Home decor, like fashion, changes every season to reflect the time of the year. There is no need to paint the walls to give a summer lift to your bedroom. A few decorative changes will suffice.
Start by removing the carpet/rug; trade the heavy fabric for light textiles and update your accessories; hang new pictures or put urchin vases in your room; cleverly display scarves or purses on shelves or hooks to bring fashionable colours into your bedroom.
Mix white fabric with medium-brown wood furniture or wood panel for a natural oasis look. Ochre and golden yellows create an exotic mood when mixed with orange, fuchsia, indigo blue and violet.
Updating your wall treatment makes a huge impact. Wall panels with a hip roller shade allows for a maximum light flow during the day. For a simpler and less expensive option, select a flat roman shade done in a summery fabric.
By not buying your bedding in kits you have more versatility. You can use the sheets all year long but simply update the shams and the bedcover. Adding new cushions will change the look of an all white bed. Yves Delorme’s Triomphe line proposes luxurious classic solids shown here in black and white.
A light fabric coverlet feels and looks great during summer. DwellStudio makes beautiful quilted coverlets with a modern touch that you can coordinate with your existing bedding. Another option is to simply lay down a duvet cover.
Flowers and stripes are hot this season. The colourful stripes of Dormant by Yves Delorme (left) fit any age and gender. You can create so many styles with such a striped pattern.
If you are looking to bring glamour to your bedroom, get inspired by this lustrous copper on violet floral embroidered bedding. Or go bold on a white background for a happy feel. Both are exclusive patterns at Maison Simons in Montreal (top).
