Jimmy hasn't actually watched this episode yet because Jimmy's VCR malfunctioned last night. Jimmy can see the pictures above and the room looks quite pretty. Jimmy wonders if Sarah used some sort of Greenworks product in this episode? Jimmy wonders if there were any of those scuffs on the wall that only Greenworks can remove? Jimmy hopes everyone has themselves a lovely day today! Jimmy is going out for a jog to enjoy the sunshine. Jimmy is still training for the marathon later this month. Jimmy can jog 3km without stopping now. Jimmy's cardio is improving. Jimmy is feeling a bit weak today though since Jimmy didn't eat for most of yesterday due to his hunger strike protest. Jimmy is glas that got resolved. Jimmy says bye!
Sarah has definitely kept with the general theme that she has used through out the house. It's a very busy room and about the only thing I'm not overly keen on are the curtains. Love the bed and it fit the room nicely, in a smaller room it would have been overwhelming. I question the need for both the chairs and the sofa at the foot of the bed, with a bench to boot. I don't think they could have possible fit one more piece of furniture in that room.
I also missed the show last night and will have to watch it when it gets posted.I love the fact that Sarah has stayed trued to her eclectic design of this house. So far in this house I haven't disliked any rooms, but I also haven't loved every room. I have liked parts of each room. This is good as I can take pieces from each room and create my own style which is what every house should be a reflection of your self and your style.
Kim, I agree with you. This is what the show is about! I plan on using lots of ideas from the dining room show.
What room has Sarah ever done that isn't a "feel good" room? I could watch this gal every single day, twice a day!!!Loved this room, lovely, but a little crowded. Beautiful fabric choices, amazing lighting, incredible bed. But I would not have possibly added the sofa bench at the foot of the bed, just the smaller bench. But otherwise Sarah, you are a happy energetic designer and I hope you ALWAYS HAVE SOMETHING FOR US ALL TO ENJOY ON TV. I look forward to Tuesday nights!!! Can anyone tell me when your book is going to be published? Is it on all of your work, or just Sarah's House designs? Thanks !! Janet C.
Love the room! It's very farmhouse albeit upscale farmhouse. I love the mix of fabrics, colours, patterns. The furnishings are fabulous. I'd love to be able to pull a room together in this manner. My big question is where is this farmhouse and what's going to happen to it after completion? Is a B & B in the works?
I have to agree with the comments the room was a tad too busy. Jimmy needs to get a new digital cable box and flat screen t.v. that will record sarah's house!
wow wow wow thats all i can say going through the episode when they were thinking yellow i was like no no no the kitchen and bath are yellow too much yellow but in the ending it just works i feel it really ties into the dining and living room and being a fabric lover i was gushing over the fabrics specially the ikat where does sarah get her fabric's? here in halifax all i have is fabricville !! but i normally come down to T.O twice a year so looking forward to my summer time visit oh i did'nt see any green works jimmy !!!!
Does anyone know what outdoor antique market they went to?
no Greenworks, but S & T did go to sears!!!
A luminous, feel-good room for sure, one where you will wake up in a good mood every morning. I don't see how the duvet discussion at Sears relates to the designing of the room. Advertisements belong in the commercial segments and shouldn't be imposed on viewers during the show. Instead of these sneaky commercials, please more info on the furniture pieces and accessories.
Rather than repeat what I stated on a Blog page.......its fabulous Sarah!!!!!!! To Jane: The name can be found under the 'Shopping Guide'. It was Christie's Antique Show, Dundas Ontario.(Upcoming events: May 29th & Sept. 11th, 2010).-Brenda-
Sorry you missed the show Jimmy! Good luck on your training. I can't wait to see this one because the pictures were very posh and exquisite! Again, I can't see any of these being in the USA. Sad but the comments help me better experience the shows when I do get to see them.
On Facebook Fans I was told that this series is only 10 episodes which means next week will be the final one. Next is Sarah 101 in January I think.
OK, has Sarah sold out to Sears? The cute discussion on pillows, duvets, featherbeds has got to go. Can we expect a lesson on toilet bowl cleaning soon and the merits of Mr. Clean? I am pretty sure there used to be a line shows were not allowed to cross to remain ethical, especially in Canada with the CRTC. What happened? It pretty much cheapens the show and viewers are not duped...
Did someone say 'Sears'? ...That's the most accurate description of this room/house. Actually, its Sears meets Ethan Allen, meets Ikea, but 30 years ago. With all the design mags out there (not to mention countless blogs), you'd think she could find some inspiration from beyond the Escarpment...If nothing else, settle down with the prints!! ...Sometimes I think that she makes her shirts out of her old drapes.
I wonder if she feels that she needs to push against her former reP***tion of being all about neutrals. She seems to have gone a bit too much to the opposite end - imho. Although I am still amazed at how she can use multiple (and seemingly clashing) patterns and colours and make it work.
I do love all the reno tips and how to make high end with out spending high on every element. Love how she takes a kitchen and uses Ikea but lifts it up a level. Sadly, the fantastic vintage finds are not juxtaposed with modern elements so it looks old school designer to me. I was hoping for a rustic modern but do not get me wrong these two are great to watch and one of the best design shows on tv. The living room entry combo of the last season were fantastic and I am just still waiting for the unexpected on this project.
I love the room for it's bones, adore the quilt she found but would have loved to see it showcased without so much competition from the other patterns, it gets lost. As well I don't see the relationship of the colour scheme and I could picture a neutral sisal or seagrass carpet instead. Thanks to the Sears plug I now know what a feather bed is! ha ha
Oh yeah, holy smokes $7000.00 for a bed and 2 chairs! Wowee! I thought it was funny that the reason over budget was because of the $3000.00 bed not the $4000.00 chairs.Did the farm sell, did she get what she wanted?
for a large room the space between the bed and the chairs looks like a knee wacker!! I agree with Lolo, Sears needs to go!
Check out Tommys comment on Facebook April 21(I think)he explains why they are now doing endorsements. Maybe Sears will improve their selection with Sarah and Tommy endorsing them. Martha Stewart couldn't do it.
This is a master bedroom. Why would you need so much seating?I'm just disappointed more and more with this farmhouse.
How do you follow on Facebook? Love this show.
Re: Sears/Greenworks.There are 3 types of advertising that are the most common on/in between television programs in both the US and Canada. The first is the regular 30 second commercial, the second is the "bumper" that appears going to and coming from a commercial break (this show is brought to you by...) the third is product placement and mentions during the show. This last type of advertising, as I understand, is the most expensive of these three. If you all recall, there was GREAT emphasis in the other 2 seasons of Sarah's House that Sarah was spending her OWN money...she mentioned it in almost every episode... not so much with the constant "reminders" this time. I suspect that She bought the house and a large portion of the Reno budget not covered by HGTV has been provided by Greenworks and Sears. If you want to be sickened by product placement, try being a fan of General Hospital a few years back. They promoted Campbell's products for Heart Healthy Awareness Month or something like that. They wrote ENTIRE STORYLINES around things like Prego Pasta sauce and Campbell's soup...so Sarah touting the miracles of Greenworks is small potatoes !!
Contrary to what alot of you are saying, I love this room precisely for it's bold use of pattern . She is a master at mixing and I think she has done a marvelous job here. The room is elegant yet cozy, rich looking but unpretentious, sophisticated yet fun.I just love it!!!
My grandmother did a better job of mixing and matching when she started to go blind! ...at least she knew the difference between cheap and cheap looking!
I think it is interesting to read everyones opinions, but don't forget she is showcasing her take on this farmhouse, she isn't designing something for a client that has given her a specific brief. Come on Jimmy, lets not let these people dis Sarah and Tommy - they are truly brilliant and I am totally hooked on their genious!
Jimmy has yet to see the full episode so Jimmy is keeping his nose out of this one. Jimmy has been really busy lately. Jimmy is in super training mode now. Jimmy just did 3km before lunch. Jimmy is going to go back out for 3km more in an hour. Jimmy needs to get up to 42km straight in the next week or Jimmy is going to be in trouble. Jimmy feels like he is going to break through the wall pretty soon. Jimmy is confident.
I just read Sarah's recent Globe and Mail article on the master and she really gives us a great and in depth explanation of her inspiration. I thought it was so well written and you really get a better idea of where she is coming from when she created this room. I also like that she shares a little personal insite to her designer life so we can appreciate that it's not all sunshine and roses as we see in a 30 minute segment.I take it back about the colour scheme and the carpet. I get it now.Cheers to you Sarah for keeping it real and pushing outside the boundaries.
Can't wait for Tuesday nights because the show energizes and excites me, but I am becoming a designaholic. Help!Speaking of fabric, see www.housefabric.com. The prices and selection are wonderful - I bought fabric at $10.95 yd. online that is $60 at a local store.
Sarah is my new favorite decorator!!!!
Where does Sarah go for her fabrics, I'm redoing my dining and living room, and would love to know. She sources some gorgeous stuff. Designer Fabric outlet on Queen here in TO I recognize but would love to know where else?
I'm pretty sure that, for example, the fabric in the girl's bedroom comes from the "designer-only" stores in Designer's Walk in Toronto.
Apparently only positive comments get posted in the comments section here, no criticisms please.
I live in the country and currently doing a reno - sadly without the outrageous budget sarah has. The idea that a country home can be beautiful is definitely inspiring. Sure it might take a little more work to keep it looking great because of all the mud, dog hair, horse hair, etc, but why live in a stark plain low maintenance home with no style. I have to say though that I'm finding this series a little self-indulgent. Relistically who does have this kind of money to sink into a place in the country and then when they try to recoup it [the cost]at the end it's not going to be a bargain buy is it. The cost of renovating these rooms is so out of reach of the average person it's scary. Perhaps Sarah has lost touch with the average person wanting decorating tips and inspiration. The 'bargains' they pick up might be bargains if money was no object. Sometimes it's just not an option to go over budget...by thousands of dollars!! And that gotta have it buy might just have to wait....
I loved watching this show. I think Sarah (and team) did an amazing job. After I watched the master bedroom show and loved the light yellow shade of paint she used on the walls, I thought Id do the same thing. I sourced the paint name and number in the shopping guide provided - "Sun Hat" from Para Paints but the sample chip looks so much dimmer than it did on the show. RATS.
Love the country home. We live in the country and I love using some of your ideas. Wish I could get a copy of the series. Keep up the beautiful designing Sarah and Tommy!
Sarah is AMAZING!!!!!! I absolutely love this house! She has fantastic taste, totally original:)I dream of living in her farm house! Wouldn't change a thing! How can I get her to my house???? Sarah just rocks!
I think Sarah is the best designer on HGTV! I tape the shows because I like to watch them over and over and over. I love the thought process in developing the rooms, especially in terms of the fabric and vintage furniture choices. My imagination for my own home soars with the possibilities reflected in her shows. Thanks so much!
I absolutely fell in love with this house. I love that it looks vintage and modern at the same time. The colors are so clean and even though they are bright, they manage to be really sophisticated combinations. I think this is a really inspiring job.
Finally, I have found someone with the creativity I have been digging for. You inspire me. Thanks
Nice try Sarah. Stop trying to take credit for all the work Tommy has done while you were off gallivanting at the Windsor Casino. You should be a little more honest and call it Tommy's Cottage instead.
What a hack job. It is clear that Sarah's style is both outdated and unoriginal. My two year old could have done better.
