Holiday Home Tour: Designer Meredith Heron, 2011

Last year we featured designer Meredith Heron's (Restaurant Makeover, Principal, Meredith Heron Design) charming Toronto home right around holiday season and boy, did we all love it! So of course I asked her if she'd be interested in letting us invade again. Are you ready? It's lovely!

Meredith: A lot has changed chez Meredith since 2010. Our kitchen is new thanks to the wonderful work of Annex Kitchens & Electrolux who supplied all of our appliances. We have also wallpapered, taken down a wall and embellished a bit here and there. However, the one thing that didn’t really change is our holiday decorations from last year.

I’m a big believer in planning holiday decor along with your actual decor vs. contrasting overtly with it. Less is often more, though you’d never know it the way we’ve chosen to decorate this year.

I tend to lean toward more natural decor items for holiday decorating but we have a rather bossy wallpaper now in the foyer that just doesn’t lend itself to cedar or boxwood garland, let alone the feather garland we used last year on our staircase.

When choosing my wallpaper, I wanted Kate Spade meets Key West. Our holiday decor needed to amp itself up to suit so we found these gold tinsel wreaths at Ikea. Definitely more rock and roll than a cedar or magnolia garland. I love the sparkle and sass it brings to the staircase. Enhances but doesn’t compete.

Mercury glass and candles complete the foyer vignette.

We’ve carried hits of gold, frosted pink, metallic greys and indigos into the living and dining space. Little touches around the room say holiday vs Griswald.

We repeated the same idea with our table settings, a gold & silver mix, and I matched it with hits of pink & indigo.

Our batik tablecloth in polka dots is oh so forgiving -- very friendly when you have a 2-year old at the table!

Thanks Meredith! I love the mixed metallics and pinks in the palette and that wallpaper can boss me around any time.

What do you think? Meredith isn't shy, we'd love to hear from you!

Absolutely gorgeous Meredith!  I love the wreath up the stairs, such a nice change from garland.  The wreath over the canvas print is pretty spectacular too.  You got me wanting to do that now.  I keep seeing marble counter tops in kitchens ..... I will never forgive my contractor for talking me out of them.  Who cares if they get the odd stain..... so timeless.
