Question of the Week: Outdoor Kitchen or Outdoor Pool?

Today marks the beginning of our two-week Outdoor Entertaining special on both Style Sheet and the foodnetwork.ca blog! So tune in for tips, ideas and to share your opinion on how best to party this summer.

On Friday I wrote a post about the luxury of the outdoor kitchen and I was even so bold as to say that I'd take the kitchen over the pool any day. But I'm sure there are some differing opinions out there. So, given the opportunity (and money), which would you choose: an outdoor kitchen or an outdoor pool?

Things to consider:

  • Cleaning/maintenance
  • Safety
  • What kinds of entertaining you do
  • How often each will get used
  • Which months you can actually use it
  • Property resale value

Now, click over to foodnetwork.ca and answer their weekly question: What's Your Favourite Summer Salad?

Comments:

I'd rather use the money for an extended outdoor living space. Perhaps a sectional couch, coffee table, beautiful 2-level deck.

If I had the space and money, I'd extend my living space - not only add a kitchen but also landscape the yard to make beautiful gardens and lounging areas.

As a real estate agent the "best bang for your buck" is not the inground pool but the outdoor kitchen!!!

As I have an inground pool already, I would love a 'complete' outdoor kitchen which would have to come with the specification of it being sheltered from the elements.  ie: Come with,  at least a roof and possible screened-in options.  I can visualize it in my little old head. :)

Not to dispute the experts who are in Real Estate as I agree  DOLLAR WISE and LOGIC tells me 'the best bang for your buck'  would be a kitchen ...... but  there are definitely  buyers out there  who are still interested in having a pool.  In other words on the  positive side, it weeds out 'the curious' when the for sale sign goes up.       -Brenda-
