Modern Country: My Ensuite Bathroom

bathroomMy ensuite bathroom is a dream come true. My husband and I did a complete renovation. The previous bathroom was half the size, and about as hideous as a bathroom could get. Wasted space, zero storage, a mini single vanity, a jacuzzi tub (eww) and tiny shower stall — all covered in mould, all a nasty shade of pink. “Dusty rose” comes to mind.

Enter my idea of Xanadu, to steal a phrase from Olivia..

We moved a wall back into the very large master bedroom. This gave us twice the space. We added an extra window on the right — which faces East and gets the morning sun. I love natural light and can't ever get enough of it. I had a stool covered in terry cloth — it's a perfect place for your clothes or a towel while you bathe and it stands up to a good splashing from your toddler in the tub. The pretty curtains were custom made by my lovely mom and the Buddha simply makes me smile. Yes, the colour purple in the chandelier really pops but it's unexpected, like the Buddha — I like that in a space.

One of the best parts — a water closet. No need to explain why this brings joy! For my husband, a shower large enough that the curtain would not touch him -- he got it! We used a watery green glass tile and ran it floor to ceiling. The floor tile is the traditional and very country feeling octagon with center square. I went with pale sage green for the centre square. Oh, the floor is heated too!

Another favourite feature: my own tub that is angled in the corner so I can see out over our farm.

But this, I tell you, his and her sinks, is fabulous! What's his is his, what's mine is mine. I will admit, my sink is always slightly more sparkly than his!

Would you balk if I told you everything came from Home Depot? I love them!
My inspiration for this room was to mix my love of modern country, girly touches and water colours. I love white and kept it mostly so, but the touches of aqua and robin's egg blue made it come to life.

Here are my paint colours:
The blue on the walls is called Bluebird by Sico 6161-31.
The white I used is called Polar Bear by Behr W-F-200
The water closet and bathtub are painted Sico Anticosti Grey 6161-41

As you were describing your old bathroom, you exactly described my ensuite.  I hope when we do a reno, ours turns out as nice as yours!

Very nice indeed!

However, the Buddha statue is not appropreated for Bath room,  In China, people do not place the Budda statue in the washroom, bedroom due to the main rule for placing a Buddha properly since  Buddha statue can bring enhanced growth by channeling the positive energy of the universe .

Here is the info that I searched from for you, hope it helps .

How to placing a Buddha statue properly :

Step1

The main rule for placing a Buddha properly is to give him a lofty perch, such as a mantle, raised platform or tall shelving unit. He should also not be surrounded by meaningless clutter and geegaws. He’d be upset if he were stuck next to your owl-shaped salt and pepper shakers.

Step 2

Give him a place of honor in your personal altar. Buddha can be the main focus of your own shrine, surrounded by smaller, meaningful objects like a crow’s feather, sacred candles and your lucky penny.

Step 3

Keep out evil spirits by putting Buddha in your home’s front room facing the front door. Anyone who enters will immediately note Buddha checking him out and will flee if they are filled with evil.

Step 4

Enhance your thinking by placing Buddha on a desk where you normally do your writing, reporting, creating or other brain activity. He can sit on a raised platform near your printer, next to your computer or in your artist studio, as long as you don’t paint on him.

Step 5

Give your garden a boost with your Buddha statue gazing out over your lawn and flowers. Your Buddha statue can bring enhanced growth by channeling the positive energy of the universe throughout your landscaping. Make sure, however, that your Buddha is an outdoor version if you choose this option so he doesn’t crack and rot in the sun.

Step 6

Have your whole house swirling with positive Buddha energy by giving him a throne in the middle of your home. Any central area will do, as long as he’s not obstructing any pathways, which will block the flow of energy and may make you stub your toe, or is crammed off to the side so he’s not properly honored.

Hi Judy, thanks for the tips on placing a Buddha properly, but I have to say, I believe I have done just that.

1.  He is on his very own, custom built perch, surrounded by next to nothing but the tub.

2.  Next to my tub, is a place of honour, and sometimes, I do light a candle.

3.  He is blessed with the first rays of sunshine in the morning, and he can see the stars when he looks above through the sky light.

4.  The bathtub is where I do some of my best thinking, as I'm relaxed.  I think this is a much lovelier place than sitting on my computer printer.

5.  He can see my entire farm through all the windows he is surrounded with.

6.  He has found a home, in the centre of my home, and this is his throne.  I think everyone has their own views on the perfect place for items in their home, and as it is their home, it's their priviledge.  I do not believe for a second, that Buddha is unhappy in this place.  He watches over my daughter as she has a bath daily, and they often have the most wonderful conversations about the weather, animals, and the life cycle of flowers in the garden.
