The notion is quite common: you want a warm, cheerful space, a brightening up so to speak; a touch of sunshine. So what do you do? Why paint the walls yellow of course! And it makes very good, logical sense. Yellow is warm, a getaway colour -- the colour of sunshine, and who doesn't like a little sunshine in their lives?
Unfortunately, those who've ventured to the yellow side have more often than not clamored right back... You see, yellow, while the colour of sunshine, is not exactly as mood-enhancing as you would expect. Colour theorists say that it in fact does the opposite: yellow inspires anxiety and conflict, and in interiors, can be simply irreconcilable with the rest of your decor.
I tend to be in agreement, and as I mentioned before am super happy that, that dreadful black-and-yellow colour scheme is over (as much as I love Colin and Justin). We even had one of our readers write in with a Design Dilemma about her kitchen, which, while worked on quite lovingly, simply wasn't making our reader happy. Upon first look, I told her right way that it was the yellow colour on the walls...
Having recently visited the always-so-put-together designer Glen Peloso, of Restaurant Makeover, I posed the question of yellow to get his professional opinion. Here's what he has to say... Do you agree?
