Discuss: Sarah's House Season 3, Episode 2: Main Bedrooms

So....what did you all think of last night's Sarah's House? Which bedroom did you like better, the east or the north? Personally, I'm a sucker for an old timey quilt and I looove that brass bed, so it's the north side for me. If you missed it, you can watch the full episode online now and then be sure to come back to discuss in the comments below. You can also scroll through the photo gallery from last night's episode and read through the Shopping Guide.

We're also live blogging every Tuesday at 9pm ET and keeping it open for an extra hour, so you can discuss the show directly afterward in case you don't happen to watch TV with your laptop nearby. See what people had to say about last night's episode and add your thoughts in the comments below.

Comments:

I was a little disappointed with the color choices for the north bedroom I was not getting that bright red with the blue.but if I had to pick one bedroom it was the west bedroom.

I enjoy watching Sarah and Tommy.  I liked both rooms but I would have to say loved the North bedroom.  I love red!  Wondering if there will be a source guide in regards to where "stuff" is picked up (antique markets), paint colors, etc.

Love the show - keep up the great work!!!!!!!!1

The pattern combinations for both bedrooms make them a tad too busy for my taste.  I especially can't understand the drapery selections for the west room.  Love the bed linens.  And, yes, of course, I do love Sarah and Tommy.

As always, it was a treat to watch Sarah and Tommy work their magic.....they are such a great duo and I love their shopping excursions and antics.  I didn't love the rooms as much as some of her other work, and agree that they were a bit "busy".  But if I was a visiting guest, it would be a warm welcome to stay in one of those rooms.  Just not the decor I would choose to live in for extended periods.

Several years ago I had the pleasure of waundering through a Designer House that Sarah did in White Rock BC.  It had a feeling of warmth and comfort as well style.  It was fun to spot all of the signature elements of her design.  Sarah's style is evolving and in this case, I think has been modified to be site specific. If we got to stand in the bedrooms, I am sure that same feeling of comfort and warmth would apply...farmhouse style... :-)   Lovely!

Although I love Sarah Richardson's shows. I was a bit disappointed that she bought a 50 acre farm. Farm land in southern Ontario is disappearing at an alarming rate and it's all thanks to the city-dweller's who think it'll be quaint to buy a farm as a retreat. My husband and I have been looking to buy a farm for a number of years now, a farm that we can actually 'Farm'. You know, grow produce. Produce that feeds city-dwellers. It is people like Sarah that make it impossible for people like my husband and I afford a farm. $1,100,000 for 50 acres is ridiculous. And unattainable for many country-dwellers, who genuinely want to use the land to make a living.

I was wondering if Sarah will be showing us how they made the blue built in bench and cabinets in the North bedroom from the IKEA kitchen cupboards - they look great!

This is addressed to Jen.  Jen please try MLS if you are truly interested in farming, and don't limit your options to one area of Canada.  There are plenty of provinces that don't cost that much to purchase acreage.  I don't believe this comment area is designated "*** about my life"  it is about giving positive support or constructive critiquing about a show on HGTV.  Get it?

I believe Jen is absolutely right on. I admire Sarah Richardson's designs and I don't live in Ontario or wish to purchase a farm.  However, the whole premise of this particular show is just plain wrong from an environmental perspective.  Moreover, Sarah comes off as smarmy and smug, especially in the first episode.  Stick to big city properties.

My husband and I laugh out loud each week as Sarah and Tommy gush about how cheap things are that they are getting.  Only $300 for two small light fixtures?  Bargain!  Fabric for $150/yard.  Okay, even they admit it's pricey, but "necessary."  Really?  $700 for curtains for a bathroom?  And that's somehow an affordable necessity?  Sarah is so out of touch it's comical.  The designs may be lovely, but she is so far removed from reality that this design show may as well be fictional.

I love all Sarah's designs and could easily move into all of her homes, but I have to agree that her budgets are really not realistic for most people in Canada. A $25,000.00  budget to redo the bathroom?  Most people I know could not afford that for sure!

March 24, 2010 11:18 AM

I could redecorate my whole house for $25000, and that's with kitchen cupboards and new fixtures in the bathroom.  I'd like to see a show about that.

You know what Kent?  I totally agree.  You don't have to have a huge budget to make a tasteful renovation occur.  More power to the people who use their creativity, and less cash!  I believe  THAT is the kind of television show everyone would be interested in.  Show me where most things are purchased at the big box stores, and the fabric at Walmart or a local fabric store's clearance bin.  Now that would be inspiring!

I haven't seen that episode yet, I live in Alberta and tonights episode was the dining room.

I am a big fan of Sarah Richardson and am totally in love with her sense of design but I must admit that I am in agreement with previous comments in regard to the purchase of farmland and design with a realistic budget.  However, perhaps, the farmland will be sold for farming and just maybe HGTV will create a show of design for the average Canadian household.  Until then, I dream of winning the lottery and hiring Sarah Richardson.

I love this show! Both rooms are both so incredible!

April 10, 2010 9:29 PM

Instead of decrying the big budgets Sarah and Tommy use...remember many of the shows are "inpirational".

Recently my husband and I gave our main bathroom a facelift for $150!  That included paint, new curtains, towels, artwork and a mirror.  It looks fabulous...and it was based on ideas from an old episode of Design Inc. where I'm certain the budget was a tad more than my meager $150.

My sources were; Homesense, Home Depot, Bouclair Home and Winners...lots of leggwork and labour, but sooo worth it!

April 11, 2010 10:29 AM

I love the final results from the rooms, however I must agree with the others....Sarah and Tommy have their heads in the clouds and in a Toronto sense of design budgets...many of the people who watch her program do not live in the uber city of Toronto and we cannot spend thousands of dollars on every room ....perhaps Sarah's next house could be done on an actual budget....or even a reasonable one.

April 13, 2010 9:21 PM

i'm curious,  why do you watch the show if are not in agreement with what sarah's house stands for.  sarah's house is a lovely show - meant to ENTERTAIN. i enjoy watching every week. what ever her reasons are for purchasing a farm are hers - respect it and watch the show - or watch something else at that time slot. you do have a choice.
