Bargain Saturday: Affordable DIY Art Ideas Using Canvas

I have a little bit of a fear of artwork. Rather than finding something I like, I choose bare walls. OK, not completely bare, I've got a few photographs, mirrors, etc. But more or less, there's not a whole lot going on with my walls. I'd just rather not spend money on something I'm not going to like in a couple of years.

So if you suffer from the same affliction, here's a bit of inspiration.

Simple Paint Application

As easy as 1, 2, 3:

  • Buy canvas (Very affordable. I found small 12"X16" for $2 at Dollarama) and buy paint (or re-use what you've already got lying around)
  • Paint canvas
  • Hang on wall
Works for me. Here's a little canvas + paint inspiration in sunny yellow:

If you're a little more creative than I am, here are a couple of ideas to take that simple canvas to the next level:

Wonderful 'n easy tips, but for those that are a little more adventurous;  web search  "image transfer to canvas".  You will find several techniques how to do it using few supplies and a little creativity.

I've been pondering doing this for a year to add some interest to my bedroom walls, because I know the colours I want and haven't found the art (or the budget). I can't find a canvas big enough, but I never thought of putting a couple small one together. Great idea! Dollarama has 10x12 for $1.
