Video: Programming Answers Your HGTV Questions!

A few weeks ago I posed a Question of the Week asking for your burning HGTV programming questions.  We get a good amount of your questions here on the blog, and we're not always ready to answer them.  So I thought -- why not do right by you guys?  I'll pay a little visit to programming and open up the lines of communication.

Michelle Kosoy, acting Director of Original Content for Programming, was more than happy to have me invade her office, armed with your questions and a Flip camera in hand.  And so I give you Part One of two; video nuggets shedding some light on how we do things around here.

In this installment, Michelle answers the following questions:

  • Why are so many shows filmed in Toronto/Ontario?
  • Will there be a new season of Take it Outside with Kelly Deck?
  • How accessible is Sarah Richardson and other hosts?
  • Why do some popular shows like Design Inc. go off the air?
  • What is the typical lifespan of a show?

Next week, Part Two: Are we moving away from straight-up design shows? What's the deal with the "G" in HGTV - as in, gardening programs?  What else is coming up?  Don't miss it!

If you have other question, I encourage you to leave them below. I'm more than happy to pay Michelle a visit on a by-weekly basis to keep you guys in the loop of what's going on.  In addition, CJ, my foodnetwork.ca counterpart, and I, have began engaging Karen Gelbart, our SVP of Lifestyle Content in similar conversations.  Karen also has some very insightful nuggets to offer, so look for more revelations to come, here on Style Sheet!

When a new show with Peter Fallico the designer ? All we see from him is old shows from 2005 and older, I think, in repeat  at 9:00 a.m. each morning and at 4:00 p.m. in the afternoon (eastern time P.Québec)

I have seen all these shows many times on repeat with Peter - I like him very much and hope to see new concept with him because he is very appreciated from all viewers I think and hope to see some more.

He is very human and simple with his approach with peoples and it's very nice to listen but I know them all by seeing to often and if no new shows I would move to something else to listen on TV.  I hope for the new Peter  Fallico show soon.

Thank you.

Seems like most of the pm shows revolve around real estate.  Any chance we could see more decorating and gardening??

I watched Marriage Under Construction once, never again. What were you thinking putting that annoying couple on your network? It’s just plain bad TV. I also think I saw that same guy on Restaurant Make Over, are reality shows what they do for a living, if so they need a new line of work! In general I love your network with the exception of this.

Is it true all the homes on Holmes Inspection are owned by Mikes friends or friends of the producer(s)?

Do you have a new show called "The Outdoor Room"?

Why is there an "apostrophe" in the show Real Reno's?   Isn't the word reno just a short form of renovation?  The plural is renovations or renos.

I am really disapointed in your Tuesday line up, miss Sarah's shows as well as Pure Design and are there not some new shows with Peter Fallico? Hate Million Dollar listing, much prefer Canadian shows. Thanks

Last evening, I decided to watch the program on Sarah's House. I didn't realize that there would be the entire series, but I thoroughly enjoyed them all.  Sarah is a creative designer - amazing me with her choices and sense of what works well!  The happy camaraderie between  her and Tommy makes this show so enjoyably fun!  My wish would be to have Sarah and Tommy work a "miracle" in my home - every room, for that matter!  I would be happy to recommend my 4 handsome and musical sons (also very creative) to add some extra entertainment and humour to the program. (-:

Thank you all for providing these great programs, and great people to motivate and encourage those of us who watch them!
