Live Blogging Tonight, Marriage Under Construction, Episode 3

Marriage Under Construction

We're back for episode 3 of Marriage Under Construction! If you missed our live blog of episode 2, do go back and read the conversation and comments.

This week, with the basement out of the way, the couple focuses on the design of the rest of the house. Before the designer, Melissa, can formulate a plan however, she needs a sense of their design style. To help determine their tastes, Nat and Rod view some of Melissa’s previous work and go on a peruse of the city's trendy furniture stores. With all this information, the designer creates a comprehensive design strategy for every room in the house. To help facilitate Rod and Nat’s plan to rent out the basement, the crew get started right away with the demo. The couple, hoping to establish a warm relationship with their new neighbours, throw a garage party.

Demolition and a garage party? You can't lose! To join me in the conversation tonight all you need to do is post a comment in the comment box immediately below, by clicking on "Make a comment" (which will appear when it's time to chat!)  See you back here at 9pm!

not too many 1st time buyers have that budget for a home and makeover.  plus they act better than everyone (no one cool lives in this neighborhood).  basically unrelatable for me.

January 19, 2010 11:52 AM

not gunna lie. I love this show.  I remember seeing Rod and "Citizen" on Restaurant makeover, and liking him right away. Excellent choice of couple.

In respose to the last post, I disagree. I am a new first time home buyer myself, and a couple years younger than these two but not much. Torontonians can make decent money, and have been saving throughout their entire career. (10 years or more if you are in your thirties) If you both have had the same "saving" mindset, and are financially responsible.. It is do-oable for sure.. and almost necessary if you are trying to purchase anything in the downtown core.

is it an unlimited budget this season? Vincenzo, Vincenzo, Vincenzo. I am missing him! Bring him back please!

January 19, 2010 5:24 PM

I agree Jennifer. Most purchase younger even in Toronto tho and start with something a little different.  Just an observation. At least they weren't living wtih their parents saving.

I could have done without the "I club baby seals" t-shirt. Jerk.

January 19, 2010 7:30 PM

I thought that was a Newfoundland Flag on Hot Rod's Tshirt ...that's why he's so funny and charming.....great couple, great show!

HGTV has made something semi-hip. Well done!!

January 20, 2010 9:49 PM

Great couple (much better than the previous ones). Love their personalities.  Naturally funny. It's a bit like watching a real life episode of Family Guy (in a good way)! I'll keep watching!

January 25, 2010 5:02 PM

Maybe next season will be more of a class act. Agreed - trash tv for hg.

February 9, 2010 7:28 PM

Come on HGTV you can certainly do better than this!

February 10, 2010 12:36 PM

This is TV at its worst, love your channel hate this show!

February 11, 2010 1:55 PM

My main complaint about this season is; They don't do ANYTHING!!!!  On previous seasons, the couples have been doing a lot of the dirty work, but these guys just go off and leave the house, only to return when the work is done.

(PS Does anyone know what street this house is on?)

February 15, 2010 8:47 PM

Hey guys......does anyone know what the make of the sink was in the master bath. I've been looking for one like it for a while now. Let me know. Cheers

February 16, 2010 12:59 AM

Hmmm, not sure what to think about this season! Rod is funny, yes - but to be honest they're both coming off as pretty snobby. This couple is totally unrelatable if the purpose of the show is newlyweds/first time home buyers - I don't know any first time home buyers with a budget this big!

Way too over the top/unattainable as far as the renovation goes - hopefully next season brings a younger couple in a modest house with some real world struggles! (ie. money)

February 16, 2010 2:00 PM

Agree with the previous persons comments, dont like the couple and the entire show seems very forced.

February 16, 2010 2:03 PM

My dear friends, the purpose of this show is for entertainment.  We deal in design and decor-based entertainment.  Rod and Nat – no matter what you may think of them Peter and friends – are entertaining.  They have great banter, are full of one-liners and happen to have a large enough budget to facilitate a meaty renovation of their home, which is undeniably fun to watch.  We have many other shows dealing with situations that I'm sure those of you who don't like this show, can relate to.  So let's all be nice and not attack their character.  The show is very popular despite those of you who are bothered by the couple, which actually points to the fact that they are essentially engaging.  Don't be mean please.
