Husband and wife team Mihran and Katia quit their day jobs last year to devote themselves full-time to modern furniture store Mikaza Home. What started as an online boutique is now a jam-packed showroom in Ottawa’s Bank Street South neighbourhood.
Mikaza specializes in reproduction modern classic furniture as well as new pieces by contemporary designers. In addition to sofas, chairs, and coffee tables, the shop has an extensive collection of lighting, including floor, table, and pendant lamps. Shoppers looking to recreate vignettes from design magazines will be delighted to find two well-known brands, Nuevo and Pink & Brown, in the showroom and available to order.
Mikaza is full of bright colours and cheerful home accents. One popular piece is an Eames-inspired rocking chair available in a range of colours, perfect for a living room or nursery. Buyers can shop in-store or online at mikazahome.com and the website lists which pieces are available for viewing in-store. Mikaza also has a twitter feed (@mikazahome) to keep devoted shoppers up-to-date on the latest items and sales.
If you aren’t sure where to start decorating your home, you can make use of the company’s design services. A new shop-at-home service will also be launching soon, providing customers with a free in-home consultation including fabric swatches and wood samples. Mikaza also rents out furniture, a great option for people looking to stage a home for sale or decorate for an event.
