Sarah's Holiday Party Photos and Episode Online!

Discuss: Sarah Richardson can pretty much do no wrong.  From her earlier work on Design Inc. to the complete reno overhaul that is Sarah's House 1 and 2 (Sarah's House 3 is coming in 2010!) to Sarah's Cottage and her ever-present (and charming) sidekick Tommy Smythe, Sarah Richardson is synonymous with elegant, original, charming design. So when she threw a holiday party last year, of course HGTV was there to film it.

Sarah's Holiday Party had our fans excited. On Twitter and Facebook, people were talking: @teebarnes said: "Watching Sarah's Holiday Party on @hgtvcanada! Can never get enough of Sarah & Tommy!" and @CocktailDeeva even made a special "Holiday Hot Totty" to curl up and watch the show with. Facebook fan Lorie C. said: "I like her use of feather boas for making wreaths...I may actually use that idea even though we are not decorating for Christmas...would love to use that for Valentines though..." (great idea, by the way!). Check out photos from the party below and watch the full episode online.

Pecan Puffs: In food processor puree 2 cups pecans till butter like. Add 2 sticks of butter & 4 tbsp brown sugar. Puree till frothy.  Add 2 tsp vanilla, blend.  Add 2 cups of sifted cake flour in portions. Refrigerate for 1 hour.  Scoop out spoonful size amount, roll into balls. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes until light golden brown. Cool to touch, place on cooling rack dust with powdered sugar, dust a second time before serving.  ENJOY!!

Your welcome...I recorded Sarah's  Holiday Party...glad I could help...

December 6, 2009 5:40 PM

was the baking sheet greased?  Where did the parchment paper come in?  I remember that.  Thanks for the recipe.

December 6, 2009 7:09 PM

Sarah didn't mention anything about the cookie sheet being greased..so I looked for other pecan puff recipe's and its 50/50 if you grease the pan or not...sorry...as for the parchment paper that was under the cooling rack so when you dust with icing sugar it's any easy clean up...hope this helps!

I would love to see a full size image of the "modern" christmas tree she decorated.  I told my sister about it and now cannot find one picture of the full tree.

I have a recipe similar to the Pecan Puffs. Instead of the pecans, you use crushed candy canes. They literally melt in your mouth. Anyone want the recipe??

December 6, 2009 10:02 PM

thanks sooo much Ann Marie.  You have been a big help!

December 7, 2009 10:25 AM

Hi everyone, so sorry for the confusion!  There is a project clip - Gift Tags - up right now, but the full episode will be up by end of day today.  Apologies!

December 7, 2009 10:57 AM

Ok everyone, it's up!  Just follow the links above and enjoy!

December 7, 2009 4:25 PM

Thanks for the recipe Sarah, and thank you Ann Marie for being wise enough to record the program!!! Merry Christmas everyone!!!!

After baking the Pecan Puffs at 350, I rewatched Sarah's cooking segment.  The Puffs are to be baked at 300, and she puts the cookie sheet in the upper half of the oven.  I removed my batch from the oven after 30 minutes and it was overdone (but edible).  I'll try again next weekend.

Karen I would like the recipy for the candy cane one please!!

December 13, 2009 3:10 PM

Please, would someone tell me what is the measurement for 2 sticks butter ???

December 13, 2009 4:03 PM

Marnie a stick of butter is 1/4 cup

December 13, 2009 5:16 PM

One stick of butter is a half a cup. Each stick is a quarter pound, and 16 oz equals a pound.

From her Facebook page.

Sarah's Pecan Puffs

Ingredients:

2 cups of pecans

2 sticks of butter

4 tbsp brown sugar

2 tsp vanilla

2 cups sifted cake flour

Icing sugar

Food processor

Spatula

Large bowl

Spoon

Plate

Baking tray

Waxed paper

Cooling rack

Cake duster

Method:

1. Add pecans to food processor. Puree until well ground and fine, almost to the consistency of pecan butter.

2. Add butter and brown sugar to food processor and mix until mixture appears frothy.

3. Add vanilla and mix again.

4. Add flour a little at a time, pulsing food processor between additions. Resulting mixture should appear as a thick paste.

5. Place mixture into a large bowl and refrigerate for an hour.

6. After refrigeration, scoop out bite sized amounts of the pecan mix with a spoon.

7. Roll dough into bite sized balls and place fairly close together on baking sheet.

8. Bake at 300° for approximately 45 minutes, until puffs just start to turn golden brown.

9. Place a cooling rack on top of several sheets of waxed paper.

10. After puffs have cooled to the touch move to cooling rack, placing them as close together as possible.

11. Use a cake duster to sprinkle lots of icing sugar on the puffs. It’s supposed to look like snow.

12. Give the puffs a fresh dusting of icing sugar again when ready to serve.

13. Pecan Puffs make a great host gift. Place them into a small dish and add another dusting of icing sugar. Wrap with cellophane and tie with colourful ribbon to really set it off!

Where is the Pecan cookie recipe? They look so good!

December 15, 2009 11:06 AM

I make a version of these every year but instead of sprinkling the icing sugar on the cookies I roll them in a bowl of icing sugar when they're warm.  After they've cooled I roll them again.  Absolutely marvelous!!  I'm going to try this cookie recipe to see how it compares.

December 15, 2009 7:49 PM

Can anyone tell me what brand of sewing machine Sarah and Tommy were using to make their felt stockings?

December 16, 2009 6:20 PM

I would love to see a picture of the tree. Does anyone know where there is a picture of the tree posted?
