Makeover: Dirty Business Tiny Spaces-Turned-Huge Project

The Dirty Business team had their work cut out with them when landscaping and redecorating the tiny front and backyards of this urban home. The homeowners have two children who need a little room to play but the couple also wanted a formal, attractive entry and place to entertain out back.

Host Joel Loblaw added a hand-chiseled stone wall to the front yard which creates two distinct garden areas and definitely makes the walk up to the house more interesting. In the back, he installed tempered glass screens (made from the same glass used in hockey arenas so it's sturdy and safe) for a little privacy but because the screens are staggered parallel to each other across the yard and not used as a flat space separator, the entertaining room doesn't feel closed off. The furniture is small and easily moved out of the way for games or running around and baskets are used for toy storage.

What do you think? Is this a good use of the little space that was available?

Its pretty...but.....envision the same area after a rainy, windy  weekend; a pick-up hockey game, a tough winter...get the picture?

Too much stuff; too much in the way.Think back to advice given years ago on accessorizing for a dressy occasion......"put on all you think you'd like to wear, then take half of it off."

Decorators would do well to take that under consideration, IMHO.
