Home Tour: Store Owner Gets a Fashionable Loft

A few weeks ago, Jaclyn Genovese, the managing partner of Toronto's trendy Queen Street West boutique Jacflash, invited Terry and I to take a tour of her gorgeous loft. The modern, open-concept space is near the store and shares the same designer. Clayton Budd of Toronto design agency, 64th and Queen collaborated with Geoffrey Genovese (Jaclyn's father and business partner) on the look of the spaces. Jaclyn made the loft home by injecting the place with her own sense of style, which she says is a bit shabby chic and a bit French country. Jaclyn's white washed, pastel and antique accents are an interesting contrast to the dark wood and clean, modern lines of her home.

Much of what fills Jaclyn's loft is family heirlooms and quirky hand-me-down pieces that hold a special place in her heart, like the antique cash register drawer or her mother's paintings in the bathroom. The giant pastel-coloured scene hanging on her living room wall used to be in her father's office and the sideboard cabinet in her dining room belonged to her grandparents. With the addition of a girlie chandelier, all of these elements combine for a look that's less Provence and more young Hollywood, which seems to suit this fashionista just fine.
